Wordpress Designs?

I saw this earlier over at Sitepoint marketplace in a 2-pack template bundle. What do you think of it? I kind of like the simple clean layout and LARGE images with each post.

The hardest part of making a wordpress theme look good is filling it with content.

we've made a couple like that, example below

problem with this kind of designs is the end-user needs to be savvy, because otherwise you'll have people posting small thumbnails in place of big images, or confused about when and where to use custom fields and stuff like that. For those that know what they're doing, using WP in a way that doesn't look like a blog at all is the way to go :)

yes if they will be different throughout posts and main page, or if you want to apply different treatment to images depending on any given factor (ie some plugins, jquery scripts and such). Otherwise, your only resource is to resize them via php or via CSS, and in both cases it will look worse than doing it with custom fields. Since you know about WP, I assume you already knew this, but just for the uninformed ones. So YES, for this kind of designs you need custom fields :2 cents:

Again, No you dont, Ive used a theme with 3 different size thumbnails, with no custom fields.

Custom fields seem to be confusing for people that know little about wordpress, and is a very long process of doing it all, when a quick simple function can do it all.

You can still use custom fields, its just very annoying
