Eliminating bandwidth cost for tube sites

http://torrentfreak.com/bitlet-launc...eaming-090504/

i love it java application running completely in the browser sandbox can stream a torrent file.

so now the cost of streaming a video to 10000 people is the same as streaming it to one.

Whoo hoo tubes just got way cheaper to start, and seed density (faster downloads using traditional torrent clients) will go up for all the used seeds

It's funny I was thinking about this idea a few weeks ago, didn't realize someone is already doing it.. but that's usually the case.

Of primary importance is the need for sufficient seeds and peers to guarantee a decent download speed.
A tube site that depended on seeders, imagine the sheer level of suck.

What happens when you close your browser, or the page? I don't see how you could get a high enough upload ratio to make it work.

Been being done for quite a while. And I talked about this at least 2 years ago. http://www.vuze.com uses this technology.

The difference is that this is 100% web based using Java. You could potentially create a tube site with its own tracker that looks and feels like any other, but you're not paying the nearly the same bandwidth bill.

thats interesting.

might have to look into this

hell you could even distribute dvd quality streams at a fraction of the cost of a traditional tube site

why you would just web seed the file
which means at it worst (1 person watching) it would be no more costly then a current tube site.

If x people are watching it at the same time, then you would split the file into x pieces and let them share it amoung themselves. The end result is bandwidth cost would be capped at 1 download irregardless of how many people were streaming the video.
