Favre could be a Minnesota Viking soon

Vikes are reportedly trying to lure him back out of retirement for the what, 108th time now?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/fo...e_vikings.html

The Vikings are a quarterback short of being a Super Bowl contender, and they need to sell tickets and have been trying for years to get a new stadium.

If Favre was planning to stay retired, why would he even request the Jets cut him? The dots? They lead right to Minnesota, exactly where Favre wanted to be traded last year. The Vikes have Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson, meaning Favre can step in and try to write a better ending to his career after he ran out of gas with the Jets and stick it to the Packers at the same time.

One NFL source insists Favre can't peacefully retire until he finds a way to get revenge on the Packers. He wants back into the NFC North so he can face the Packers twice. The Bears traded for Jay Cutler and the Lions drafted Matthew Stafford. Hello, Minnesota.

"Favre can't stand Green Bay," the source said. "He wants to play Green Bay and say, 'I told you so.' His bitterness is creating this. I think he's calling Minnesota. I think Minnesota is talking about this as we speak. You haven't heard the end of Favre. No way. He is bionic. As long as somebody will let him in, he will play."

The Jets did Favre a huge favor by cutting him now. They were under no obligation to let him go. But Favre actually had the Jets in a vulnerable position and ultimately they would have no choice but to cut him if he came out of retirement.

It's interesting stuff, but part of me wants to say "Please make it stop".

I remember when Tim Horton went in and out of retirement a few times.

thundergasm 05-04-2009 08:52 AM

Being in Wisconsin we've dealt with this Farve saga so much it's comical. Each freaking year he plays this game of retire....unretire. He cried wolf one to many times last year and the Packers moved on plain and simple.

Sure......it can be said both sides handled it wrong, but for him to want to stick it to Green Bay is to stick it to all the fans in Wisconsin who worshiped him all those years and put up with all his womanizing, drug abuse issues, ego issues, etc. He was larger than life and I think this went to his........and Deanna's head.

If he wants to play fine, but he's already tarnished a great career with his constant waffling. He is NOT the "awe shucks" guy the media........John Madden.......portray him as. He's turning into every bit a T.O. as the league has.......other than T.O of course.

alexchechs 05-04-2009 09:36 AM

Who cares, Favre is way past his ego at this point

collegeboobies 05-04-2009 09:42 AM

wow thats pretty crazy....

i'd LOVE to see him at the Vikes! The Wisco-Minnie dramas would be off the fucking chart this year!!!1

WebairGerard 05-04-2009 09:58 AM

thought he was done for good but I guess not.

Would they ever! There are some die hard whiners on both sides. I think it would make for some interesting talk radio.

I wonder if ABC or ESPN would make a huge schedule change to get one or both games on either Sunday or Monday night?

BVF 05-04-2009 10:49 AM

I live in Milwaukee now and I would love to see him play. If I played ball, I would pLay until I had to be carried off of that field. You only live once and it I couldn't get over it if I just quit. And I don't think he is trying to stick it to green bay fans. Just the management.

Agreed, but you and I both know there are going to be some people saying otherwise.

Him being 80 and all they'll have to change their name to the Minnesota Vicodins.

Diomed 05-04-2009 11:45 AM

I have chatted with Favre 4 different occasions at Mardi Gras.

He is one egotistical cuntbag that's for sure, so this behavior makes a lot of sense.

Cold ignorant bastard :2 cents:

I saw him refuse autographs to like 10 different kids who were amazed by him, he was such a hateful dick to them.

Sure there are gonna be people on both sides of the isle here which is what will make the whole thing interesting and keep ESPN humming for months.

While I do believe he'd love to stick it to Thompson and McCarthy, I also think he wouldn't shed any tears for Packer fans either.

His ego is way larger than any organization or team fanbase. It's always been about Brett and always will be.

Should he play........sure....why not, but lets not for a minute think it's for the love of the game. This season will be about revenge plain and simple.

SBJ 05-04-2009 12:10 PM

wow wonder how many more times he will retire and come back :1orglaugh My guess is he didn't do much for the jets and guess what he will do the same for the vikings :1orglaugh

I disagree on the point that he didn't do much for the Jets. He made a significant difference there in my opinion. They were a 4-12 team the year before, last year they were a contender finishing with a respectable 9-7 record. Hard to say Favre had absolutely nothing to do with that.

While I doubt he'd be the magic catalyst that launches the Vikings to the superbowl his presence will have a major effect on how they do this season... and how much revenue the team generates.

atom 05-04-2009 12:29 PM

Im torn between wanting him here and having him just retire. Its a big deal in the local news right now thats for sure. What really concerns me is the amount of INT's he throws. If we do take him he is a 1 year QB at best, then wtf do we do? I wasnt happy about picking up Sage Rosenfels this off season either. Vikes are overall a good team and I would go even as far as to say they are a top 5 this year. We need a QB thats for sure. I don't know if Favre is the man or not but it would be fun to watch Monday night football against the packers this year.

i'd so pay to see ray lewis just completely knock this mother fucker out for good. retire old man and go away. a nice cold shot and out.

NFL doesn't need this pussy to retire, then whine about not being able to play for GB, then retire, then sign w/ the Jets, ruin that franchise, and then retire again, and now decide that the Vikings want him...

I'm starting the Brett Favre bounty pool up soon. Get one of the GB linemen to completely coldcock this SOB into oblivion.

With that defense, offensive line and Adrian Peterson, I could win the superbowl. Why wouldn't he want to pay for them. Jets wouldn't have even won 4 games without him. Hmmm future hall of famer Favre a bit past his prime or Tavaris jackson.:1orglaugh

LiveDose 05-04-2009 08:48 PM

Please someone buy him a set of golf clubs...

Talk about making yourself look like an ass and tarnishing a great career

pocketkangaroo 05-04-2009 11:22 PM

As a Bears fan who hates the Packers, I have to admit I'd have a lot of joy seeing Favre in a Viking uniform storm into Lambeau and throw 3 TDs while Rodgers struggles.

I was wondering what take the bears fans would have on this.

MandyBlake 05-05-2009 09:42 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOO! that's a sacrilege! you can't have played for the packers for as long as he did and then end up with the vikings. that's just plain wrong!

Vitasoy 05-06-2009 12:03 AM

Well he proved last year he still has it in him. But he credibility has gone to the crapper.

PornMD 05-06-2009 12:10 AM

I hate him but I'd love for him to do it just to see the GB/Min drama arise from it. The rest of their season will be shit with him at the helm probably but at least 2 games will be worth watching, lol.

We had some offseason drama ourselves with ol' Tomlinson. I certainly don't envy GMs when they're stuck with drama situations and aging stars and have to make a tough decision. I don't blame Packers for sending Farve packing when they did - fuck him for continually leaving them hanging, and I'm glad he got nowhere with the Jets.

Sarah_Jayne 05-06-2009 05:12 AM

Yeah. We heard that rumor. How many times can one man retire?

ESPN is just loving this. That's pretty much all that has been on most of the morning. I still hold to my thought that if/when he suits up to take great revenge on the evil Packer empire those two games will be moved to prime time on either Sunday or Monday night.

That's just too good for the networks to pass up. We have season tickets for Green Bay and I'm already planning my trip to some exotic location when we sell the four for that game for $1000 a piece........

Thanks Brett!

Daddy Big Nuts 05-06-2009 08:12 AM

Stop the madness. Please. Its over man. Damn.

SCOOTER 05-06-2009 08:41 AM

Let the man play or should I say ..Let the man get paid !!

I say good for him.

Nice. :thumbsup

Snake Doctor 05-06-2009 10:18 AM

Awesome.
Roger Clemens can be the running back, and Michael Jordan can be a wideout.

Retiring and actually meaning it is just so 80's.

NaughtyVisions 05-06-2009 11:57 AM

Brett Favre is a douchebag. Not on a playing ability, but as a person. "I'm retired, you guys move on without me." "Hey, I want to come back! Scrap all the forward progress you made and stick me back in as starter. What? You won't let me play? Fuck you, I'll go elsewhere." And it's the Packers' fault...

Now this Vikings rumor.... I read a lot of articles saying he was considering going to the Vikings, then I read this yesterday:

Brett Favre: Says NO To Talk of Return

"Despite a report he’s hired a personal trainer by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Favre sent a text message to ESPN that said “NO” in response to a question if there was any chance he would consider playing in 2009"

This was posted online Monday. Now 2 days later he's meeting with the Vikings. Fuck him and the horse he rode in on. Fucking asshole. :2 cents:

PornMD 05-06-2009 01:29 PM

There should be a Brett Farve version of the Magic 8-Ball.

Brett Favre is the main reason my Dolphins went 11-5 last season.

If he doesn't go to the Jets, we don't get Pennington.

I think Favre hurt his shoulder late last year and that explains the shitty finish. Early in the year, the Jets were money, even before the offense really jelled.

Although I don't understand this comeback, if there is one, because he never got surgery on the shoulder (that we know of)

OG LennyT 05-06-2009 01:49 PM

talk about bringing more heat to the Pack-Vikes rivalry

Hey Brett, not that you'll see this, or even care - but as I type, a fourteen year old boy that literally grew up watching you, a boy that adored you for years, and once even met you is now quietly stuffing every bit of your memory into the garbage can.

He is so 90s. He should just give it up already. This is worse than that pathetic football movie "Everybody's All American".

Minte 05-06-2009 07:55 PM

It's very disappointing. He is doing everything possible to ruin his legacy.
