Saw Star Trek - wow! (light spoilers)

I scored a ticket to a private pre-screening of Star Trek yesterday.

Hot damn, that movie rocked. Better than Wrath of Khan. JJ Abrams completely nailed it. General thoughts (some spoilers...so stop reading now if you want to be completely surprised):

..

..

Eric Bana is a complete bad ass as Nero.

Spock and Ohura get a little freaky with each other..who knew.

James Kirk is a fuckin' pimp - period. He's fuckin' green women, white women, black women. He doesn't discriminate!

The guy who plays Bones completely nails it.

Numerous references to old school Star Trek phrases. "Damn it, I'm a doctor not a physicist!" and of course, "I need more power...I'm givin' her all she's got captain!"

You learn how Captain Pike got into his wheel chair.

The space battle scenes are just amazing...best I've ever seen in a move.

Oh yea, the Nimoy Spock plays a major role in the move.

Ask questions and you shall receive the answers...

no "he's dead, jim"?

no unimportant crew member on a mission where you already know after 1 minute that he's not going to make it back to the ship?

damn :disgust

boneprone 05-01-2009 09:42 PM

I heard Captain Pike has a bit of a coke problem.
Thats pretty damn good...

Oh yea definitely have that lol. Kirk and Hikaru and some poor sap you never heard of sky dive on some giant drill. Of course, Kirk and Hikaru land and fight the bad guys, where the poor sap gets obliterated by the giant drill.

Oh yea, about 6 billion Vulcans die. :Oh crap

Iron Fist 05-01-2009 10:53 PM

Yeah I heard the Klingon parts were recently edited out.. meh... if it's half as good as you say it is.. I will be pleased.

Can't wait to see this movie. I'm not a "trekkie" but I always enjoyed Star Trek.

By the way, the story of Capt. Pike was told on the original series. Remember? An entire episode showed his story and how he ended up in the wheelchair.

qxm 05-02-2009 12:20 AM

I thought I saw Sylar wearing a wig ...:Oh crap

John-ACWM 05-02-2009 04:15 AM

they never explained how he ended up in the wheelchair mainly because it was a throw away because the original actor was not available. They wanted to use the old unaired episode without reshooting stuff.

SexualDragon 05-02-2009 11:38 AM

I gotta go see it!

CaptainHowdy 05-02-2009 11:50 AM

I gotta see it now...

Aaahhh...you're right. The actual specific thing that caused him to be wheelchair bound was never told. That was always one of my favorite episodes, which is weird because I'm a big Shatner/Nimoy mark.

I heard Eric Bana only had a short cameo at the end?

He is the whole reason I wanted to see this movie in the first place,

any truth to that?

Damn, I must be totally out of the loop on actors. I have no idea who that even is! lol

But I just saw that the movie opens here in Vegas on May 8th on IMAX so that should be cool.

Scott McD 05-02-2009 01:03 PM

I'm a Star Wars geek so that forbids me to go see any Star Trek movie... :1orglaugh

SideShow 05-02-2009 01:06 PM

Better than Kahn as a villain....hard to believe? What?

Shatner's last music cd is one of my guilty pleasures

No he can't sing or act but he does both so poorly but with full conviction, for that he earns my respect

Eric Bana plays Nero.

He was in Chopper, Troy, Munich, etc.

If you ever watched Chopper you will be a fan of his for life.

He is a main character throughout the whole movie. I saw it last week at Paramount. Movie totally kicks ass. I honestly think it is the best Trek film of all. It is definitely the most accessible to non-trekkies.

Thanks,

that was exactly what I needed to know.

I really didn't want to see it if he only had a small cameo.

Looking forward to it even though I'm not a trekkie or fan, I am a fan of Bana.

aniloscash 05-02-2009 10:38 PM

great news I cant wait. I was affraid that it was going to an action movie ala MI3 but I keep hearing rave reviews.
