Webmasters | Can anyone recommend software...

I am looking for some help with converting .MOV movies into .AVI without losing any quality on the video. Also looking for a quick way to convert .MOV to .AVI

Also if you could recommend some good software that works great and quick to rip a DVD and convert that DVD into .MOV.

I have tried Pazera to convert .MOV to .AVI but it took 45 minutes to convert an .MOV file and when it was done the quality was pretty crappy.

I have read different reviews online about some other software you can use, but I was wondering what other webmasters use.

I would guess it wont be the software as the culprit so much as the codec and encoding settings. Though some footage will never compress well, and a few codecs are better suited to use in different scenarios.

Most "do it for me" encoding solutions leave you with a lot file size you could have trimmed while still preserving quality. As with any one size fits all kind of deal there is always a draw back. In this case the drawback is you could generally get better results by handling the encoding settings yourself.

If you are starting with .MOV I would be curious to know if the files is already encoded or in raw. If you re-encoded a .MOV file that is in H624 or similar to .AVI you will see quality degrade regardless of the program you are using. Though Im sure know that much if you are this far along in the process.

Streaming Media Magazine does reviews on encoding software all the time you may want to look there for a simple solution that yields good results.

Sorenson media is good. Pick as similar codec.

I use ffmpeg for video conversions. All the popular video codecs are lossy compressions so that means it will always degrade no matter what. Nothing you can do about it but you can set the settings high enough so you can't tell.

Try Movavi VideoSuite

I use something called Moyea I think it is.. Easy with great conversion and no noticeable loss of quality.

Thanks.

I tried bumping the quality way up and that seemed to help.
video came out fine.
The only problem was it took so dam long to convert. The movie went from being 517MB to 1.3GB.

But anyways it would be fine. I just needed a few of these converted so I can use to help market the site.

Thanks for everyone who offered a suggestion.
