Update on Lars!!!

Well I just got off the phone with the lady who's little girl Lars bit and she was very nice and just asked if I paid for her medical bills, which is about $800. Of course I will!!! She said the little girl said to her, Mommie the girl doggie was really nice but the boy doggie tried to eat me, haha Her Mom explained to her that she scared the boy doggie and he bit her. She said the little girl doesn't seem to have any problems over it at all. She plays with her Aunt's German Shepherds and is fine about everything. She did say that her son, who was 16 who I thought was 11 or 12 at the time, was more upset about everything and that the little girl slept in his bed the night that she was bit trying to make him feel better!!! haha She is a tough little girl!!!

Now tomorrow Animal Control comes by and releases Lars from quarantine, so hopefully this is all over. She also told me that she called animal control and told them that this was not a malicious bite, if the dog was trying to attack her it would have been a lot worse and that the dog was provoked. She told me she didn't want anything to happen to my dog and she thanked me for being a responsible person. She told animal control I had my dog on the leash that I was responsible and I stuck around after and was sincerely concerned. I hope after tomorrow I can put this situation behind me, and move on to making Lars a happy balanced puppy!!!

OOOHHH haha I didn't get that comment at first, no Lars is here with me, he was quarantined at my house. He couldn't leave the property for 10 days. I would me freaking out if he was at the animal control center!!! :Oh crap

He is stir crazy though because I usually take him for bike rides twice a day and he runs like 15mph for about a mile and then of course trots the rest of it, but going from that to nothing has made him a very restless boy. I also take him up to Lone Mountain about 4 times a week and we hike around running free because no one is around. He is going to be so happy to go out again. Thank God he loves this little red pointing light thing because it would have been hard to release his energy. I have been running him around the house twice a day with that. He runs in through the bedroom doors from outside, into the entry way, through the living room, into the kitchen back through the entry way and out the breakfast area sliding doors. Then around the back yard, down the side yard, into the garage side door, into the house again, down the hallway, through the dining room to the outside, and BAM start all over again. I do that about 25 times and he is exhausted. If he didn't get that exercise he would probably start biting me!!! haha (no he wouldn't be he would be hard to handle) Every time I put on my shoes he jumps up and runs to the garage like Mommie don't leave me. So I am going to run him crazy on the bike and then take him for a long ride in his truck and then up to Lone Mountain for about an hour!!! I can't wait!!!

Good ending to the story. Dogs are animals and have instincts they can't control. It would be crazy to see them punish the dog for doing something natural.

Good to read things turned out well. I know how much you love him. :)

DefaultMan 04-28-2009 08:42 PM

Being a dog lover I am glad to hear things are turning out positively.

Elli 04-28-2009 08:49 PM

Whew! That's good that it's working out so well! It sounds like you were lucky to run into a reasonable woman who didn't over-react to the situation.

cherrylula 04-28-2009 08:57 PM

glad it worked out okay. You should tell that woman she needs to get her kid some bike riding lessons. :)

... after you pay her bills and she is not going to sue you lol

Robbie 04-28-2009 09:11 PM

I'm so happy for you. I have 2 big German Sheps and I am constantly afraid that something will happen and they will bite someone. Sweetest dogs in the world, and smart and very loyal. But my big male is around 110 pounds and if someone were to climb the wall into my backyard I know what would happen. I can only imagine the anxiety that you had over this. You could have very well had your dog put down by the city. I'm very glad you didn't. And of course I'm thankful the little girl is okay. You dodged a bullet! I have to remind my kids and myself everyday that these lovable animals can be VERY dangerous too. Sometimes I forget because they are such big babies around me.

bronco67 04-28-2009 09:35 PM

Being a doggie lover, let me say I'm glad that things have turned out well. Being a realist, let me say you should keep your wallet open.

mikesinner 04-28-2009 09:40 PM

Are you Swedish or something?

Yeap. When I had my baby (my wife won't be happy for me taking all the credit there... But what the fuck right?) I (she...) decided the best thing would be to send our (my!) dog to Mexico to live with family. He's a great dog, but he's territorial and would totally bite my kid's face off one day.

His victim count is now up to 8 in Mexico. :Oh crap

NickB. 04-28-2009 09:50 PM

I think its plain fucking ridiculous how US LAW handles this

Kids tend to mess with dogs and the majority of the time the kid deserves it

quarantine a dog because of this ... pfff I wish they go after the real bad guys

KillerK 04-29-2009 12:48 AM

this is why dogs are fucking pets.

Ross 04-29-2009 02:29 AM

$800 in medical bills is damn site better than being sued. Glad it worked out in the end.

All of a sudden I feel like taking my dog for a run. :)

brand0n 04-29-2009 03:57 AM

wait...

i remember you once banned me due to me saying something about dogs biting children..

now.. just to get this straight as i didnt read the entire post

did your dog bite a kid?...

LadyMischief 04-29-2009 06:06 AM

A really good tip to keep Lars on an even keel before going into a potentially stressful situation is to really tire him out BEFORE you take him out. If you have a treadmill this is perfect. I taught my dogs to run on the treadmill, and i put them on for half an hour before i walk them. It puts them into the right mindframe of follower, and tires them out so they don't get so stressed in those situations. If they are tired they are less likely to respond in a negative way!

Glad to hear things worked out and that the little girl is ok! Best of luck to you hun. You know where to find me if you need any other ideas :)

That's a shame... Some proper training and not allowing his dominance by putting yourself in charge would have helped immensely. Sorry to hear you felt you had to get rid of him. :(

pornguy 04-29-2009 06:27 AM

Loryn.. Be careful cause all it takes is one person to wisper in moms ear about money and it will cost you a fortune.. You should honestly talk with an attorney and have the lady sign a waiver that all she wants is the medical bills taken care of.

Its a tricky thing to do, but in your best interest. Or at the very least get a video recording of her agreeing to the doc bills and nothing more.

pornguy 04-29-2009 06:28 AM

PS. and if you need to to come over and sleep with you for a night or 30000000000000000000000002584515100000000000000000 54846510

Im more than willing to comfort you.

I would never ban anyone for something like that, especially you my friend!!! Yes this little girl was riding her scooter on the sidewalk in front of me and she fell right in front of me onto the blanket knocking over the cooler and Lars got her. He only bit her once, he didn't attack her, or she would have been a lot worse. She just startled him, and me for that matter!!!

I know, that is what I was worried about, but she told me on the phone that she is not that way, she doesn't believe in suing people who are/were responsible. She told me that I did everything right it was just an accident. She said that a lot of her friends couldn't believe that she wasn't going for more, but she told them that it would be wrong if she did that. She just wants the bills for the stitches taken care of and that is all!!!

I am sitting here working away, waiting for AC to come by and release Lars so he can go for a long ride!!!

You nailed it girlfriend!!! I am playing with Lars and the red light pointer thing so he is really tired when AC comes over. Other wise he will be barking and starring the guy down and that will not be too good!!! haha

In that case you are VERY fortunate then that she isn't like all those other money grabbing assholes, and she actually has morals.

Glad things are getting back to normal and that's the end of it... :thumbsup

Yes I was very happy about that, and her church friends where saying the same thing, but her work friends were telling her they couldn't believe she wasn't going for more!!!

I am still nervous about the Animal Control coming to release him. Even though the mother said she called and told them the dog was a good dog he was just startled, and when the guy took the report the whole story was the same, that it was an accident and the dog was provoked. I can't help but to think, what if they come and say they are taking Lars??? I can tell you now I will be one fighting bitch!!! I will jump the back wall with Lars, and take off towards Utah to hide. LOL I will freak out beyond anything anyone has ever seen!!! I also think it is over, but that little part of my brain is nervous making my tummy feel butterflies!!! I can't wait to they get here so I can breath again!!! :(
