Chain restaurants are dropping prices

Have you guys been seeing all of these commercials from the big chains? Outback, Chili's, Applebee's... all rolling out cheaper menus due to the recession I can only assume. Anybody try them? Anything good?

Kind of amazing seeing so many items for under $10.

considering half the crap at those chains is no better then a $5 meal at mcdonalds im not too surprised.

Does that mean they are getting goods cheaper or were they just over charging by that much?

I think they are different menu items. So I am betting the product is cheaper and also possibly a smaller size. If most restaurants gave a decent portion instead of a massive portion, prices would be cheaper.

That's very true... Some places have lots they could chop off the plate. But if that was to start to happen across the Country, wouldn't prices of goods then go up? Buying less of something, is going to make it cost increase for a restaurant.

Lets stick with the microeconomics of my wallet!

Deflationary cycle might not be TOO BAD... Read up on the Great Depression of 1920 that failed to happen. Why? Fed wasn't too busy dropping logs in the toilet bowl of fiat currency like we have now. Also, the lame duck president (Woodrow Wilson) was too sick to put on his "Captain Save A (economic) Hoe" cape so he couldn't intervene in the economy. Warren Harding had a handsoff/tax cut approach. End result: 20%+ decline in output and employment reversed fairly quickly and economy went on to new highs up until Great Depression.

Sometimes, when it comes to Economics, the conventional wisdom "cure" is more fucked up than the disease. Sometimes, behind the fear lies normalcy. But you wouldn't get that impression when reading history books about Harding. He's poo pooed as an idiot, crappy speaker, and corruptocrat.

they may sell more volume though, so it would make up for the smaller portions
