How does twitter make money?

As i understand you get the text a twitter-person is sending on your phone through sms. So i have 500 followers, i send one message and they send it to my 500 followers, is this correct? Ifso, who pays for the sms?

By building a spamfree empire then selling the entire thing to a media giant

none - twitter gets revenue from pre-paid gallery placements on the top 15 spaces and banners. the rest of thegalleries are free placements.

Twiiter does not make money.

The owner of Twitter was on TV the other night and that was one of the questions. Right now they just have private investors to help them run the business so they can write the software, with plans to monetize it later. I'm sure their ultimate business model will include advertising

No money yet. Only for the users right now.

There is an upgrade function in there somewhere. I ran into it the other day.

stickyfingerz 04-24-2009 08:44 AM

Just like youtube.com, make a mega big site, millions of members coming back daily = Google will buy it.

It's a government funded experiment where spammers spam other spammers and a few morons. Results are due to be published soon.

bufferover 04-24-2009 09:55 AM

There are lot of horny pervs out there you don't need to spam just put some attractive girl in your avatar :winkwink:

Yes, it's his site and he spams every single Twitter thread with it. Which of course means it must suck ass if he's that desperate for attention to it.

Nothing wrong with a bit of promotion.

Remember that once upon a time, Google made no money...

Owners have even said that they do not even have a business plan yet. Just doing it for fun and to fill a need. Not saying the creators are hard up or anything though either. Does not seem like they started out with the idea to hope someone would buy them out "again". It very well and could happen - then again since they do not need money, they very well could pull a full on craigslist and reject buyouts. Then just find a minimal way to make enough to pay the sites costs.
