I just read an article in the new Macworld about it.

During a special event at the apple campus in March, the company showed off the next major update to its iPhone operating system, which includes more then 100 new features.

The big ones are...

copy and paste information including blocks of html and photos into apple and third party apps.

landscape orientation to its key applications.

MMS support for sending and receiving photos, contact info, audio files, etc.

Voice memo app to record, edit and share audio files.

It will be available summer of 2009 as a free upgrade for all iPhone users and as a $10 upgrade for all iTouch users

as always it'll have features that other phones have had for a year BUT it'll look snazzy and all the retarded mac users will flock to it! I'm not upgrading my HTC mogul until the touch pro can be had for $150 without changing my contract! $25/mnth for 500 minutes, unlimited net, txt and nights/weekends unlimited starting at 6... I've tethered with my laptop for 100+ hours for 6mnths straight now not to mention all the emailing I do while shitting!

So is this a NEW phone, or just an update of the software to the existing one?
seems a bit confucious from what i've read on the net so far......

The seeding of Iphone 3.0 software to develops has models referenced in it that don't currently exist, so it's being considered likely that the iphone 3.0 software will be in conjunction with a new iphone release.

Oh so I shouldn't wait to buy an Iphone then? I thought they were releasing new hardware (there was a pic of the iphone with a different model number floating around somewhere)

I haven't read anything on a new iphone but I did read that Verizon will have a 4g version in 2010

I read somewhere of a new dual core Iphone coming soon.

i cant wait to actually be able to get MMS and pix files. its crazy that you cant do video on this thing either. Everything else is good though :)

While there is no official released date for the next generation iPhone some are speculating one will be released in June. This would conicide with the release of the new OS, the Worldwide Developers Conference and the 2 year contract expiration of those who bought the original iPhone. Last week, a list of parts purported to be component orders for the new iPhone started spreading around which has fueled speculation something is in the works.

don't know about iPhone 3.0, but the newest firmware will be released somewhere in June/July. Probably they'll announce the new iPhone model then as well.

We have been following the rumors as well, you would be surprised at how many iPhone users do not update their phone.... maybe the new features will be a good push towards updating.
