Just Curious. In a Given Work Day..

With the invites to new WM sites and forums, I am wondering who has time for them all. I find that a lot of the WM forums seem to be losing some speed as more people head back to their other jobs.

Other than GFY, what are you hitting in a day? AWW? XBiz? AVN? JBM? YNOT?

I know some people keep multiple tabs open and bounce between them all as a 'break' from work. But just wondering if you are hitting em all in a day or what?

:helpme

So many boards, so little time... yay for browser tabs. I scrapped instant messenger programs to balance the goofing off load :)

Yeah, my thoughts exactly.

I used to keep up my Yahoo, Skype, ICQ, all day. Now generally pop on and off when needed.

As for forums, and boards. I only hit a few. Seems every week there is an invite to some new private forum where they are keeping out trolls, or whatever the sales pitch is. I am all for doing business, but at some point you are running from board to board.

I see that some people post the exact same topics of conversation on all boards. I can understand sales, but topics? Especially the trivial non-business ones??

Oh well.

I mainly stick to the higher end traffic and exposure one's simply because I use boards for business dealings. Whether looking to buy, or selling, you want the most eyeballs. All the same, I see that a lot of forums are slowing down, and some of the recognized are vanishing.

Either heading back to their fry cook job, or having to work harder for their green backs.

Truthfully um most often, just gfy.
Every blue moon I will check another board. I tried, I even must say I really like a few of them. Just they are slow, same shit as here, or well have mods with issues.

fuzebox 04-20-2009 11:21 PM

I don't have time to read more than one board. There are a handful of boards I check a few days a week for trades and stuff though.

Many you only have to check once a week or two. Same topics on main page.

DP is an exception, but you are bombarded with a lot of the low lying fruit offers. Whether on board, or PM. I can only imagine the nightmare for the 12 or so mods they have there.

:Oh crap

Agreed. It is hard to follow, and contribute, to all boards.

There are many others not in my normal rotation I come across on occasion, or someone will tell me they are a mod at so and so. That are almost segmented further. Like leg webmasters, or so on. Making it almost niche within a niche WM boards.

Raf1 04-20-2009 11:41 PM

I just read gfy and one "insider" board :)

I also do not get that many invites either, so well maybe that may also contribute.
Its hard being a troll.

qxm 04-20-2009 11:46 PM

I hit at least 10 boards on any given day .... yeap... I am a "hit man"

Most are boards I have never heard of with a few exceptions. At this point, I simply do not sign up any longer. I understand what they are trying to accomplish in one way or the other, but frankly I am on boards for business. Not play land.

It is hard enough keeping track of the few boards and sites I hit on a daily basis.

Agreed. I typically focus on GFY and XBiz -- who has time to peruse more?

Stick a broom up my ass, and I'll sweep the floor while I'm at it.

:2 cents:

XBiz/net does have a nice site. I have to admit.

I do not think a lot of the industry (represented on boards) has made it there (yet) but with the limits via mag. membership, or invite only, that tends to limit the riff raff. Which can be a good thing. I have flipped a few invites here and there, but still notice many missing.

georgeyw 04-21-2009 12:00 AM

I barely look at any other boards, I check gfy maybe once a day these days and post a reply maybe once a day now.

Got too much to do let alone read boards.

I use to really enjoy reading the marketplace on SP as it is a good place for new ideas - but haven't checked it in sometime now...

Agreed.

However, it used to have a lot of nicer high end sites, or would give you some ideas between mixing site scripts for a new solution. Last few times I have went through it in detail, looks like mostly junk or the usual.

"Web site 1 week old, look at my stats, HUGE POTENTIAL" type of garbage.

:disgust

Yes, this is pretty much the reason I stopped looking so often. You really need to sift through all the garbage to find something worthwhile now.

Sarah_Jayne 04-21-2009 06:05 AM

I go to a lot of them but even I don't have time for them all.

I think it would be very hard to be a apart, and make quality posts, on all of them. It would be a full time job.

polish_aristocrat 04-21-2009 08:32 AM

aren't other adult webmaster boards pretty much dead?

what else is out there besides JBM and ADX ?
I'm out of the loop, not really posting or reading anything else

There are a number of them out there. A lot are slower. Some are dead or dying. But then there is also the xBiz new site, and some other news one's trying to get started.

It used to not be that impossible because there were few boards that were anywhere near as busy as GFY and the conversations there would be more 'real'. So, fewer threads but more in depth threads at the same time. So, you could go between the active boards having real conversations and it wouldn't take all that much because they were pretty slow. These days, GFY still moves faster than the majority but there really are only a few boards that have real conversations and the rest are full of the same 'borderline bot' posters. Not much point in posting on them if you are looking to meet actual webmasters that you don't find on any other boards.

MRock 04-21-2009 09:06 AM

We started in this biz in Oct. '98. I joined my first board in 2007. I signed up for about 5, narrowed it to 1 with a smaller group of "real" webmasters with biz conversations (O). Joined here a little later, but I mostly just stand on the sidelines and laugh at this board. As said by others, I'm too busy makin' money to devote more time to cruising boards ... oops, a render just finished, gotta go ... :)

papagmp 04-21-2009 09:12 AM

I frequent three boards...... no time for more than that.

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-21-2009 09:24 AM

I stick to 3 main boards for adult (GFY, TAB, IQ), and recently signed up for DP as I want to start going into mainstream on some stuff.
