What's the usual price for graphic design in your area?

I just hired a designer to do simple jobs for me (designing business cards, brochures, flyers etc.) and I was wondering how much an entry level designer makes in different parts of the world.
Please post the city/country next to the standard hour rate.

edit: I'm not looking to hire another designer, just curious :)

Ukraine.
Mainstream design is different than adult. Companies around us charge like $4000-10000 for site designs in mainstream. We are a little bit below that. :)

I just hired a couple people here in North Carolina.. It ranges so much with each person. I interviewed a few that wanted 50$ an hour.. and I interviewed some that wanted 200.00 an hour.. I must have gotten 200 people write the first day I listed the jobs.. I also picked up someone that is working for $7.00 an hour just doing my website updates and sorting pictures and simple stuff..

I ended up hiring a guy that workes per project so that worked out great for me..

I'm interested in how much per hour people pay for designers :winkwink:

My level 1 designers in the Philippines cost around $950 a month.
That's $237.50 a week and being full time 40hrs a week that works out to be $5.93 an hour. :)

overpriced of course. For that you can hire a designer in some Europena Union countries, so I guess Philippines is no more cheap labor country lol

Hmmm interesting cos that is still cheap labor compared to my USA based designers.
The structure with my offshore team is unique to many other companies as we do not have a set up fee, contracts unless otherwise requested by the client go from month to month and the dedicated employee still comes with a supervisor. Daily reports are issued and the employee is online for the required 40hrs a wk. So maybe the reliability, professionalism and quality of service is also what you are paying for here. It is still very cheap labor but with quality control. Out of that monthly rate, there is more than 1 person being paid, there is internet service that is required, tools and software that are needed, electricity that has to be paid, rent on an office to work from and so on.
SO although it may not be cheap to you.......it is cheap to larger companies who have experience with offshore staffing and pay in house staff thousands more a month for the same quality service.

yes, but like Kiwigirl said, the $950 a month covers a lot of other expenses. The designer probably makes a third of that or less. I'm not sure exactly so I'm just guessing. A company has to pay bills, taxes, insurance (depending on the country) and stuff like that.

You couldn't be anymore correct Raf1. :thumbsup Being that this is a business there is so much more that goes into it than just hiring some random person that sits at home and offers their services although those sorts of people are still out there and available but you run a risk of hiring someone who is not always reliable. Hence using me. Oh how I love to be used. LOL :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

$30k - 35k/year is the average in North America according the the Canadian and US Government websites.

Although it can be lower depending on the age of the person and their experience/skill level.. But that is the average seen and reported by the government.

How about European countries? Anyone have info about what the standard wages are for designers?

I understand, however the question was: "how much an entry level designer makes in different parts of the world".

yes, that's right :) I guess it would be a little hard to find out how much these companies pay their designers.

baddog 04-18-2009 08:22 AM

Who would pay a designer by the hour?

tough guess... Maybe an employer? hehe

A company that hires a designer full time doesn't usually pay per project.
