Macbook Question

I have been thinking about picking up a 13" computer to carry around with me through out the day when I am out.

What's you feeling about the basic MacBook. What can I expect as far as work use with this machine?

I use the previous generation Macbook Pro as my primary work station hooked up to a 30" monitor. It works great. Performance is good but obviously not what you are going to get from a desktop with a RAID setup.

I use my EEE pc for portable work.. Obviously not a powerful computer but it does the job. Plus its only $350

Make sure to get Parallels/Windows Vista for it.

If you need firewire, make sure you get the white version (not the neat uni-body one) because it still has a FW port.

Don't get parallels. I tried it and found vmware fusion to be MUCH better once I switched.

Those little guys look sweet. I had been contemplating one.

Ok, got a basic Macbook on the way. Going to try out computing from the other side.

Thanks for the feedback. Feel free to keep posting your opinions and any software suggestions, tweaks, hacks would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about Apple... This will be used primarily for light stuff while I'm out and about.

I have OSX running in a little Dell Mini 9 and it's a great little netbook. It weighs 2.3 pounds and fits in a diaper bag.

My main laptop is a year old Macbook, which is pretty heavy compared to my girlfriend's MB Pro.

They're all great options, especially the new Apple units. Their laptops and iMacs I have no issues with spending the money on. :thumbsup

Hey people that have macs but use vmware/parallels/windows

YOU'RE FAGGOTS

The WHOLE POINT of a mac is that it's different. If you need Windows or Windows Apps then RUN WINDOWS pretty fucking simple. Thanks.

great machine, she'll do what you need and when you resell in a few years, her value is retained.

spend a g now, and in 3 years let her go for 8

edit: i would say max out the RAM, but she has 2GB, more than enough. Great lappy.

Don't get either. Use boot camp instead. I use windows7 on my macbook pro, but only to play left4dead, when the games done I run back to mac os X.

Multiple operating systems all running at once confuse you, simpleton?

Being able to run anything at any time kicks ass. If you can't you have no idea how much you're limiting yourself.
