Can it be true AVN and XBiz are not doing well? (gossip)
I have no clue how valid this is, so i wanted to get a few opinions. I keep hearing that AVN is struggling and now i hear that Xbiz isnt doing much better.
Anyone know the truth? The real truth or this just all gossip? |
Judging by the state of the industry and the economy in general I would say yes. The real question is, not are they struggling, but by how much.
|
I suspect that XBIZ is doing okay judging by how big their shows are growing.

It is crazy times who really knows...

Yeah Alec is a master at all this.. so I doubt Xbiz is struggling.. thats a stretch
but I can see how AVN would be... they've lost quite a bit of marketshare and are obviously showing fangs now.. |
the end of a era
|
The sky is falling! Run for the hills! There is no money in porn!
haha I'm sure both of them are doing better than a lot of companies in this biz these days :2 cents: |
Just because 1 company is suing another is no sign that either companies are not doing well.
It is a companies right to protect it's business interests. I dunno if you are a referring to that but it was mentioned far too many times in the other thread. |

I doubt that's the case, and tend to agree with you actually. Just thought I'd play devils advocate. |
Heres my AVN opinion if and why they are struggling. They have from DAY 1 never cared or catered about the small guy / company / producers.. who make up majority of porn. AVN awards ALWAYS went to best advertisers, not best in each category. Some of the award winners over the years....PLEASE GIMME A break. Everything is always VIVID, WICKED.. etc . Us small guys have always been pushed to the back of shows with all the big wigs up front and center. TRUE its about advertising dollars and budget and stuff. But surely they can figure a way to get the smaller guys in the mix , which they havent and now it bites them in the butt.

The ailing economy affects pretty much everyone, these companies included. |

Is this your generic response to every thread on gfy, or just a unique way to get your sig out there, again and again. |

I still see XBiz everywhere. AVN on the other hand not so much. However, that is just my experience, and general observation not necessarily a direct reflection of anything beyond marketing. :2 cents: |
I think we may be shocked at a few of the people in trouble these days.
|
Between the trade magazines, 2+ shows per year and online websites, I think they'll be just fine.

Thanks for asking. |
based on where I sit, seems many are struggling on one hand, but also diversifying more into mainstream to supplement. Branding/marketing/exposure are great as always but it seems I have heard the word ROI more and more these days in any deal conversation.
And with budget cuts, company sales and those looking for work--other indicators. There is an expectation higher than ever of return which I attribute to the economy impact of our industry. Sign of the times. Not to say our industry is free falling, just a note that people, myself included, are indeed watching money closely in business as I am sure in life. Changes will happen whether we do or not. If anyone needs assistance to generate new biz, just let me know, I am happy to see what is possible for you. Best, Lori Z. |
always had my personal doubts with awards both at xbiz and AVN - they should be getting enough income from that
|
Hope chance on others too.
|
It should be no surprise that any company with alot of overhead got pretty shook up in 2008.
It's nice to grow and grow but that growth quickly becomes a huge liability when sales drop due to the economy or other factors. Unless you can run a really lean ship (or at least shrink down to one when times are tough), your business can suffer or fail. |

this industry can't support two - one's gonna fall and i'm pretty sure it's going to be the three letter one.
i'm sure XBIZ is hurting as well, both DVD companies and web companies' sales are in the toilet by at least 25%, most more than that - advertising budgets are getting slashed i'm sure. |
I truly look forward seeing AVN go out of business, they should of given attention to those smaller companies like myself but instead kept pushing the junk, fuck them and glad I stopped the ads I ran when I did.
|
I have a 10 year collection of AVN. This months issue is 1/3 the size of the issue 10 years ago. May be its the industry.

Here's a question... If both AVN and XBiz disappeared tomorrow, how would it affect your income?
