Best Chocolate?!

I just finished a nice Lindt dark chocolate bunny. Stayed away from the Godiva and the Guylian this year.

It got me wondering...

what's your favorite brand of chocolates?

After Shock Media 04-14-2009 12:18 AM

ghiradelli mostly, yet as long as it is a dark semi sweet with at least 60% cocoa it is pretty hard to find a bad one.

teh ghey 04-14-2009 12:30 AM

any chocolate from Amsterdam. After I tried it once I couldnt stop eating it. Every label, it was all fantastic

F-U-Jimmy 04-14-2009 12:32 AM

I like swiss or Belgian :thumbsup

Domain Diva 04-14-2009 12:49 AM

I like cadburys brand chocolate ..yummy :)

Vjo 04-14-2009 12:50 AM

Ritter Sport. (German made)
About the same price and found all over in supermarkets.

Ghiradelli would be my second fav. :)

dagoba organic chocolate

Persius 04-14-2009 01:28 AM

Truffles that I had in London.. forgot the brand though. its famous

sexandcash 04-14-2009 01:33 AM

Cadbury's but only from England/GB.

When I lived in the middle east the Cadbury's was disappointing, they add all these ingredients so that it doesn't melt as easily and thus taking away from the flavor.

Whatever fancy brand it is that Aly sends me for my birthday every year is just simply the best chocolate I have ever ever had. It comes from France by express and is still cold when it gets here the same day.

I am weird in that I don't actually like milk chocolate all that much but I love really dark chocolate.

adamneve 04-14-2009 01:47 AM

I love all chocolate but the best for sure is Leonidas - http://www.leonidas-chocolate.com/

Good chocolate is well just that good chocolate. Technically my favorite is from this local candy shop but that would be of zero use to anyone outside of my town - so I went with a brand I figure most could get anywhere.

Vendot 04-14-2009 02:51 AM

Sorry but brits do rule chocolate........ Cadburys is the number one!

prezzz 04-14-2009 03:05 AM

Belgian chocolate Cote d'Or. I can't get enough of the dark one with ginger and lemon.

I would have to give most credit to the Dutch when it comes to chocolate.
Major issue with Cadburys that companies should never ever have if their name is on it. The Cadburys may be fantastic in the UK or elsewhere - in the US they are pretty much very low end until very recently and that is just with their specialty bars. Honestly they are not much more different than Hershey. The standard issue is crapy milk chocolate.

Not knocking hershey's or cadburys really. I know hershey has at very least earned its right to be around due to its innovations early on - less than the dutch though.

I'm a big fan of Godiva, especially dark. I got a large assorted box in my Easter basket. :thumbsup

People over here don't like American chocolate. It took me a while to figure it out but the main difference is American chocolate, as they get over here, is very powdery in texture vs British chocolate which is very creamy. Being a PA gal, I have nostalgia for Hershey (great factory tour there too) but every time I have it I get their point. The normal 'off the store shelf' candy bars are better quality chocolate over here. Cadbury's is very creamy milk chocolate for just normal bars. Though, as far as that level of British chocolate goes I vote for Galaxy over Cadbury's.

For really good chocolates that are better than just a chocolate bar for kids then I go for Dark Belgian chocolates over the rest...mmmmmmmmm

I get ya as I really do not like American chocolate much either (well brand name). My point I guess was that Cadbury tastes like American chocolate over here. Would not surprise me in any way to learn that they make it in a different way here either. I guess it does not pass the Coke or Budweiser type test - tastes the same everywhere you go.

I'd say Galaxy was nicer than Cadbury too but wouldn't turn down a chunk of Whole Nut any time soon :)

Yen_HerbalRevenue 04-14-2009 08:41 AM

alexchechs 04-14-2009 09:24 AM

Over the counter Lindt is amazing and readily available. I usually go for the dark orange or dark mint bar.

Next in line for me is Vosges. http://www.vosgeschocolate.com/
They make some of the most interesting bars out there. They have a great Black Pearl bar that has Wasabi and ginger in it which is out of the world.

Boutique chocolates I have to go with Chocolate Bar NYC http://www.chocolatebarnyc.com/
Granted this is my fucked up Ex's store but her quality and attention to detail on the bars is amazing. I still send interns there to get me the dark chocolate NYC pretzel bar.

Yes, I eat alot of chocolate... and these are my recomendations...

Tom_PM 04-14-2009 09:26 AM

The best chocolate is the chocolate within reach.

Abernathy SixtySix 04-14-2009 09:28 AM

Lindt dark with the orange peel

Elli 04-14-2009 09:42 AM

I love Green & Black's cherry chocolate. It's $4 a bar here, but so worth it :) I keep it in the fridge and eat a square now and then, so it lasts a while.

Otherwise I love trying different RitterSport bars. My fave so far is Marzipan!

yoeleven 04-14-2009 09:42 AM

Cadbury's dairy milk!

Very, very true. US chocolate tastes different even from Canadian chocolate. I thought Cadburys was all the same, but it's not :(
