A five-centimeter fir tree has been found in the lung of a man who complained he had a strong pain in his chest and was coughing blood.

The 28-year-old patient, Artyom Sidorkin, came to a hospital in the city of Izhevsk in Central Russia last week, Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reports.

Doctors x-rayed his chest and found a tumor in one of the lungs. Suspecting cancer, they made a decision to perform biopsy, but when they cut the tissue, they were amazed to see green needles in the cut.

?I blinked three times, and thought I was seeing things. Then I called the assistant to have a look,? says Vladimir Kamashev, doctor at the Udmurtian Cancer Center.

1) at a quick glance you can see that its a fully developed piece of a fir tree
2) the article doesn't say "it grew inside his lungs" which is obviously impossible

Someone could of tried to swallow something and got it in their lungs by accident. Which looks like is what happened, since we know damn well it did not grow there. Then the tumor grew around it like what often happens when your body has a foreign object inside of it.

its a fully developed piece of a fir tree. obviously it didn't grow in his lungs. most likely it was part of a branch or piece that was shoved down his throat, and part of it went down his windpipe. if you put it down someones throat pointing the wrong way... it isn't coming out easily... because the needles are directional... that would cause it to keep working its way downward into a lung

To grow, yes it needs roots. To stay alive no it does not, water will keep it "alive" for a while until it can establish roots. Plus no shit it is not a full size tree.
Now you want to tackle photosynthesis while your at it.

And yes when it comes to plants, I can almost assure you that I know more than most surgeons do. Same would be said that I can assure you that they know more than me about removing a tumor from a lung.

Plants do grow without roots their branch can act as a root and some plants can grow without light.

being that i grew up in alaska and also lived 10 years in russia... i think i have a pretty good idea of what a fir tree looks like. the idea it grew in his lung is moronic to say the least. infant fir trees are more plant like than anything. thats a piece of a mature tree. its pretty obvious.
