There was a thread the other day about twitter . It had a spoof video on it . Not sure if I want to join twitter myself. I just joined facebook for gods sake lol. I am just a tech caveman that gets it when I do.:thumbsup

NEver visited the site. I am happy to lose potential income just to keep my principles.

Honestly, what is so great about it? Obviously I didn't come up with the concept but I could make a better one in a few hours.

Nahh just don't have time man, GFY is the only forum or online community i use and quite frankly its only cause its absolutely awesome to see what happens next....
Endless amounts of idiots and wannabees in here, AND may i add some great business people as well....though it can be hard finding out who is what at times lol

For those that do twitter, can you explain what you get out of it. I don't mean those who exploit it for marketing, but those who use it as regular user. What do you get out of it?

Substitute marketing with spamming and I could agree.

I think that, if you stop to think about it for a moment, everyone on GFY knows that driving traffic to a site is at least as important as the basic site. It would be easy to create the basic Twitter site, but difficult to code it to scale like it has had to and difficult to get the necessary momentum going on it.

I dont use twitter, but I have to be honest the latest trends online are there for a reason. If you cant adapt with the way the internet stream flows YOU are a loser and you will be wiped out. I bet you thought myspace and facebook where lame when they first came out but begrudgingly you've signed up for an account. Will we all be using twitter in a few years? I hope not, but sadly as the ecosystem adapts I think it might be the case.

Even worse is people that moan about other people twittering.

I don't understand this Twitter bullshit. I see that people obviously like it and I know why, but I personally see no value in even visiting the site.

Twitter is actually pretty nice if you use it for the intended purpose. That is to say, you have a smallish group of interesting friends that do interesting things and you'd like to passively keep in contact.

However, these people that are following 5000 people and call it "marketing" are idiots.

If it's such a good marketing and traffic tool, who here has made a sale from it? Why do you think it's good for traffic and marketing?

A number of my mainstream sites where there is a 'community' feel to them have been growing because of the people following my tweets that relate to that site. So, for example, I have recipe sites. When I post a new recipe I put out a 'hey check out this recipe' tweet and they come looking to that page. When they are there they are clicking on adsense which makes me money on this particular site. It keeps them remembering my site is there and coming back and clicking stuff rather than my sites just being something they visit once and forget about.

Do you remember when GFY was busy and if you had a question you could post and get like 10 answers in one minute? That is what twitter is for me.

And that is how quickly they will visit your site if you do it correctly because they don't have to think about it for long..they just click. Like I said though, I don't out and out spam. I just use it to sort of heard my surfer sheep into the pen.

yet you post on message boards all day which is esentially the same thing?

I post under Miraclefruitplu with links to the site in my sig and we see traffic and have seen sales.

Rob Rob Rob... I have 2 Twitter accounts... one for YNOT News which updates automatically... and one for Cybernet Expo that has been pulling in registrations. I spend less than 20 mins a day on both just simply approving new adds and responding to direct and @ messages
