can you run two different versions of Photoshop on one computer?

is there a way that I can keep my Photoshop CS intact and working on my computer if I install a newer version of PS?

On macs, yes. Don't know about Windows these days.

last time i installed a new version of PS which is a long time ago, i installed CS(Photoshop 8) and I wanted to keep Photoshop 7, the installation of CS ate up and replaced PS 7.

I have 2 running, but one is on my c drive and the other on an external drive.. When I had them both on the same drive it gave me problems..

I had that happen when I went to CS2.

But so far, I can open both installations that I have running now.

But i know it was.

Itchy 04-09-2009 08:56 AM

I have cs2 and ps 7 installed and both work

Mutt 04-09-2009 08:59 AM

ok thanks for the replies - i'm gonna install the trial of CS4 and hope for the best. just got tired of doing PS tutorials and ending up at a dead end when the tutorial has steps using tools that aren't in CS Photoshop 8.

Mutt 04-09-2009 09:02 AM

was doing this tutorial and then realized CS doesn't have the Smart Sharpen tool that's used in the tutorial to make this awesome looking poster

Thats quite possible. CS4 doesn't come with all the older plugins etc.. by default, it is posibble you have to download it from Adobe and install it. Same goes for the extract filter.

fris 04-09-2009 09:43 AM

when you install cs4 onto a pc with cs3, they are both kept intact

woj 04-09-2009 09:45 AM

It was possible in the past, not sure if the new versions play nicely together though...

UFGators2007 04-09-2009 10:11 AM

I currently have CS3 and CS4 working on mine (Vista).

The Seduction of Art 04-09-2009 10:51 AM

I've used two versions on one windows computer no problem.

Of course if you want the issue solved definitively, they should explore it on the least exciting episode of MYTHBUSTERS ever.
