Old News But Wow >>>Social network sites 'monitored'

This is news from last month but this is just crazy stuff, The goverment want in on every thing including social networking :(

Social networking sites like Facebook could be monitored by the UK government under proposals to make them keep details of users' contacts.

The Home Office said it was needed to tackle crime gangs and terrorists who might use the sites, but said it would not keep the content of conversations.

It is part of a plan to store details of all phone calls, e-mails and websites visited on a central database.

Civil liberties campaigners have called the proposals a "snoopers' charter".

Tens of millions of people use sites like Facebook, Bebo and MySpace to chat with friends, but ministers say they have no interest in the content of discussions - just who people have been talking to.

I never visited UK yet (yeah, yeah, true) but literally all the time I hear on the one hand the government "big brother" stories from there, on the other hand - all the stuff about crime on the streets... at least the media don't portay it as a country I'd like to be living in..

governments around the world fear the free exchange of information granted by the internet. they all want to bring it under control and as soon as possible, one small step at a time.

The only safe thing to do is unplug and get off the grid.

They fear it and respect it. Knowledge is power.

If you can gather all the info from all the social sites.....

That's pretty smart. They can find out who you hang with in a matter of seconds.

It is interesting to see how countries are portrayed by media...particularly outside media. Often when I see reports in the UK about American life it has nothing to do with the America I know. I am sure what they show is true for some but when an aspect has a big focused investigation it is then it can appear to be all that the country is about.

Be sure to tag every person in your pics so you can help train facial recognition systems!

The way these networks are growing, they must be hiring! Probably a real growth industry!

I can see why. When I visited London 6 years ago, there's surveillance cameras in many parts of town.

Regardless, I found London to be very clean, very historical (awesome buildings from the neoClassical architectural era), and a great place to visit. I was lucky the weather was pleasant. It rains there a lot supposedly.
