Dropped my laptop and it died just days after my desktop motherboard blew up

So now I need TWO new ones.

Which brand should I choose and what SHOULD I spend on each? I do not use the "entertainment parts" much - it is mostly for work. :helpme

I love my Macs, but the cost of their desktops compared to others is a bit nuts.

Everyone has an opinion. I buy what makes me happy at that exact moment.

sextoyking 04-07-2009 12:22 PM

Go with dell :)

I thought of MAC but just cant find a good enough reason to get one other than they are pretty to look at. I am way too comfortable with PC.

Dell is what I hear a lot from guys that repairs PCs too - I just dont like the way they look....

Well we have been using dell's for yrs, get good deals in the office / biz section - love those 500.00 systems with xp pro, and 20 inch or free widescreen monitors...

We have them all in the office and never a problem but we don't use them for video or graphic machines, just for online work, ms office, etc.

For a laptop, get a lenovo thinkpad t-series
For a desktop, either build one or get a Dell (Optiplex on their business line)

Both of those ^^ are good all around work machines.

For the laptop - go Mac.
For the desktop - Dell's a decent choice.

I have a laptop Dell Studio 1735 and everything runs perfect, if you dont mind the entertainment part for a little more than $700 you can get this model.

Some people think 17" is too large a screen for a laptop and go for the 1535 version, if that were your case you'll be saving even more $.

Scott McD 04-07-2009 12:32 PM

Dell probably.

Just hope you don't have to deal with their customer services much though...

Grab a Macbook for the laptop and give it a try for yourself, if you're at all curious.

If you don't like it, load it up with Windows and you're set.

I have a few HP machines that have served us well.

These things always happen in 3's so before you buy a new one, drop an old phone or something.

HerPimp 04-08-2009 03:50 AM

stick to gaming models, I don't see the value in anything else.

I'm very happy with my HP Pavillion laptop, would recommend. As for desktop, it all really depends. What kind of work will you be doing on it? Video editting? Photoshop?

pornocruto 04-08-2009 07:55 AM

Thats pretty tough luck..

Get an Asus.

Both machines were HPs - double bad luck HP. I am currently working off my iPhone so pardon to all waiting for emails from me last few days!

Stay away from HP laptops. Nothing but problems from everyone I know who has one. (Including myself)

You should really just stop and never touch a computer again. :2 cents:

I hate the studios; I ended up grabbing a dual core 2.4Ghz Inspiron 1525 from the outlet for about $600 w/ Bluetooth, Intel 802.11n and 4G RAM. Check out the outlet, and save a couple hundred on both desktop and laptop. I got a quad-core 2.2Ghz last year w/ 19" LCD for about $500. They're so cheap, they're disposable.
