Thinking of relocating to Miami, FL.
Anybody from there or around there? Give me some pros, cons, how living expenses are, etc...
|
Miami is expensive if you like to party and have fun. Apartments/condos can be expensive but if you live a bit outside of South Beach you can get something nice for a decent amount.
I too want to eventually live in Miami. Its my fav place. Been there 3 times and parties my ass off and also spent a shit load of money but it was worth it. My only problem is getting a Visa to live there. The weather is a little crazy at times but part of the charm of Miami. Everyone is so relaxed (in my opinion) and laid back. I'm thinking of taking my girlfriend over this summer actually for another vacation. |
I think Miami / Dade Country are pretty much at the epicenter of the housing foreclosures that are hitting the US at the moment. I would guess that there are some deals on housing to be had.
I saw a piece on ABC where they visited a penthouse on Miami beach which sold for nearly $3 million 18-month ago, and is now foreclosed and is selling for ~$1 million. |

I'm sick of the doom and gloom of the midwest all but 3 months of the year... I want to wake up and see the sun shine, beautiful skies, all the shit I saw when I was in Daytona Beach in 2003. |

Miami is a fucking horrible place.
Forget the fact it's over priced because you can live outside those areas.. I'd look into places on the west coast. |
Learn to speak Spanish fluently...thats all I'm saying.
|
Just outside of Miami they are practically giving away beautiful houses they over built before the crash.

I was born and raised in Miami. I like to visit, but that's about it these days. Great memories tho, really great memories...:thumbsup

Look for a rental in Overtown -- near(ish) the beach, cheap, and VERY safe.

Here's a site I found with the filming location for each episode & scene. http://www.seeing-stars.com/Dexter/ByEpisode.shtml So don't be too sad. :winkwink: I love that show too. |
Unless you care about actually being on overcrowded South Beach with the night clubs and that whole party scene, Broward County is a better place to live than Miami if you want to be in South Florida. I used to live in Fort Lauderdale and I liked it, but I have been in Hollywood, just north of Miami for a few years and it is a nice, centrally located place to live in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Personally we live in North Miami, right on the intercoastal, 20 minutes from South Beach and Downtown Miami, 15 minutes to Hollywood, 30 minutes to Fort lauderdale.
Right now there are amazing deals on condos. There was a ton of overbuilding and some of them are going for 25 cents on the dollar. Personally I would ONLY live right on the water in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. Living on the water is tropical paradise, anywhere else, even one block away, just isn't worth it IMO. Whatever you decide, be sure to rent for at least 6 months first, in order to get an idea of what area you really want to live in, what's important to you, etc... South Beach is a ton of fun 24/7, but it can suck you in after a while and you can burn out from over-partying, (I've watched it happen to people). Hit us up when you get in to town, and we will be happy to show you around and talk about what is where.... p.s. You really DON'T have to speak Spanish in Miami, it just seems like it sometimes. :) p.p.s. Although a bunch of interiors and street scenes on Dextor are shot in LA, all of the shots showing the water and most of the beach shots are recognizably Miami.... as is the outside of his apartment, and other establishing shots, etc... . |

Anyone got any local realtor sites? All I get doing searches is the big sites, I prefer local realtor company sites.
