PDA/SMS/Mobile Porn

Where was that thread on this? Its blowin up in Europe I heard, why not in the USA? What are the ways to make money off of it? Do you know anyone (urls) that is currently doing this successfully?

The Other Steve 11-22-2002 11:07 PM

There are at least 2 paysites that are focused on the PDA market and a couple of others who advertise themselves as PDA friendly.

Sorry - can't remember the urls but I'm sure Google will turn them up for you

Sorry - my brain is set in concrete :)

Some of us are building pda sites that advertise normal paysites - I noticed that my partner has a few hits through to Nasty Dollars from one of her pda sites.

I had an idea a little while ago, I doubt I'll have the time or enrgy to pursue it, so imma give it away, just remember who suggested it, if it's a good idea....

Sony (I think) is going to or has come out with a car CD player that displays images on it. I was thinking that for a set amount a month, they could have a catalogue of pix or vids downloaded (via sattelite, maybe?) directly to their vehicle on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.

Might be a long shot, but ya never know.

The easiest way right now to make money off of it, is to just push logos and ringtones, for Nokia phones in particular.
Also, funny recorded phonecalls, ordered with SMS is hot, that shit is making millions.

The SMS thing needs to be built out more in the US I think.
SMS stands for short messaging service.

The main reason Nokia phones have done so well in Europe, and scandinavia in particular, is their ability to have custom logos and ringtones, which can be ordered through this SMS service.
In Norway alone, a country with only 4.5 million citizens, 100's of millions have been made with this SMS shit. That should give you an idea of the potential in the US.

Porn (except maybe dating / escort related services)
wont be a big thing for the upcoming years on PDA's
and Mobile's.

Sms, Logo's and Ringtones ARE.

KingK7, the problem with cellphones in the USA is that their network systems are usually not compatible (you can't send messages from one network to another) plus the fact that Americans simply do not use SMS as much as Europeans.

Also, SMS is getting obsolete with MMS growing rapidly.

Yeah, I agree, SMS is only going to stay for a few more years. So will the form of MMS currently presented.
It's going to take some time for MMS to be accepted though I think. I still havent quite been able to hook that shit up on my Nokia 7650. Setting up email and internet connection was easy though. They need to put out phones with all that shit pre-programmed, or at least make it VERY simple to hook up to.

I dont know anyone that has MMS set on their phones yet, though most the people I know have phones that are MMS capable.

wtf is "MMS"?
forgive an ignorant American...

Also, how does it improve the sms feature set?

Petr 11-23-2002 09:37 AM

"Multimedia Message System". http://www.nokia.com/cda1/0,1080,400,00.html

KingK, I have MMS on my cellphone... Sending pics, etc. just fine. But yes, right now all the MMS is still at the very beginning.
