Beer Roasted Chicken {Delicous Pics}
Fired up the Q today, and did beer can chicken on the grill. Filled the smoke box as well, and added some garlic to the dripping tray. I seasoned the bird with mixed herbs and sea salt. It was VERY tasty. I used Creemore Springs lager for the beer.

I've cooked a lot of beer can chicken and it doesn't make any difference in which beer you use.
|

I am going to do the turkey for easter on the Q with the beer can. It is the only way to go from now on...
The key to making it extra tasty, is to poor boiling hot water over the bird (both sides) before seasoning -- this makes the skin go ULTRA crispy (like Peking duck), and keeps all the moisture inside. |

also key to brine.. if you dont brine your birds you crazy dawgggg
ive done this with pineapple juice cans and cornish hens.. bad ass. |
I cooked two beer can chickens myself on Saturday night. Best tasting chicken I've ever eaten!

Will not argue the moisture staying on inside due to crispy skin issue, and hitting it with boiling water is one way. May want to look into proper skin lacerations to allow the fat to slowly leave the bird, or you could really amp it all up and brine, then steam whole bird (flavorful liquid would just boost it) which will render the fat, pat it dry, season up skin and quick or slow cook it to crisp the skin. |
that looks like a very good time right there
|
I did up a beercan chicken just last week... one of those big 10 lb country chickens.
Barbecue lid barely closed. Damn was that good. First one of 09. |

My son who is nearly three loved it -- I have never seen him eat so much chicken, mash, and carrots. Gonna do up another one next week. I might try it with a can of Strongbow cider instead.
