Is Jimmy Fallon Failing Miserably?

Any time I've accidentally come across his new late show, it's awful.
His awkwardness doesn't work as a host.
Whole thing looks like a really long, really unfunny SNL sketch.

LiveDose 04-05-2009 08:36 AM

Didn't even know he had a show. About the only thing I watch these days is DVR'd stuff and sports.

bronco67 04-05-2009 08:40 AM

I was willing to give him a chance, but he looks like deer in the headlights, and the guests look uncomfortable.

notoldschool 04-05-2009 08:55 AM

He sucks balls.

Dvae 04-05-2009 09:14 AM

Who is Jimmy Fallon?

okok 04-05-2009 10:56 AM

Speaking of, who in LA can hook me up with tickets to Conan's opening show?

SweetT 04-05-2009 11:03 AM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_O'Brien

"Premiering on September 13 of that same year, Late Night with Conan O'Brien received generally unfavorable critical reviews for the first 2 to 3 years after its debut. O'Brien himself, a total unknown among the general public before being named host, was seen by many as not being worthy of the program. NBC even poked fun at this perception in a radio ad which aired shortly before the show's debut and had O'Brien relaying an anecdote where someone recognized him on the street and said, "Look, honey, there's the guy who doesn't deserve his own show!" Another source of criticism was the fact that O'Brien himself appeared to be very nervous and awkward during the show's early days. As a self-deprecating nod to this, the original opening sequence for Late Night With Conan O'Brien was animated and featured a caricature of O'Brien who sweated and pulled at his collar nervously."

jmcb420 04-05-2009 11:05 AM

Fallon dosen't seem to fit the bill very well, imo

MetaMan 04-05-2009 11:05 AM

guy isnt even funny at all i cant believe they gave him his own show.

Barefootsies 04-05-2009 11:17 AM

History Lesson

All these exact same things were said about Leno, O'Brien, and Kimmel when they all started.

Not one of them hit their stride until year or two in.

:2 cents:

Manowar 04-05-2009 12:41 PM

he will get into it

XPays 04-05-2009 12:52 PM

the 15 seconds of the roots is the best part of the show

shermo 04-05-2009 12:54 PM

Give him some time. All hosts are awkward at the beginning until they fall into their groove.

IllTestYourGirls 04-05-2009 12:59 PM

He has a show?

mynameisjim 04-05-2009 01:05 PM

I actually really liked Conan O'Brian when he first started. Then later I couldn't stand it as the show got really lazy. Once Andy Richter left I stopped watching.

I don't think it's the same with Fallon. Conan may have been nervous at first but he didn't have a nervous personality. Fallon, even when relaxed comes off as nervous so it's not like he will settle in.

I hope he does well, but I don't think people will tune in for long as the whole thing feels really awkward.

Jakez 04-05-2009 01:06 PM

I can totally see how much of a trainwreck he makes the show look, but I can also see him actually becoming the next Conan (funniest person on TV if you ask me). Isn't Conan taking over the Tonight Show soon? When is that? WHEERESSS COOONNANNNNNN :(((

lol that's just awesome.

Think it's around June 1.

I think they're free like the Tonight Show.

kane 04-05-2009 02:16 PM

I've seen the show a few times and it is okay. He is obviously nervous and is trying to find his voice. I think if they give him time he will develop into a good host. The good thing about being on that late is that there are not many expectations and they are usually pretty patient with letting you grow.

DK 04-05-2009 02:27 PM

Jimmy Fallen is so unfunny. Even on SNL you could count on him to start laughing and fuck up every skit he was in. Then he would try to make Horatio laugh and fuck up

STAROTICA 04-05-2009 03:00 PM

he must have a "contract" with NBC for a certian amount of shows.....if its not there.....it will show in the nielsen's right?

does late night tv even have a "sweeps week" or is that only reserved for prime time?

bdld 04-05-2009 04:31 PM

the audience isn't into it, it doesn't help when they dont laugh at his jokes.

$5 submissions 04-05-2009 04:33 PM

It's just starting slow. Like someone mentioned earlier, Conan wasn't exactly a smashing hit right out of the gate.

Jakez 04-05-2009 06:32 PM

I hope everyone is right about the just getting started thing, but remember, Falon ISN'T a freakishly tall pale white guy with a weird hair-do that makes fun of himself and it's hilarious... he just isn't Conan, he's Jimmy Falon, so it's not just a given that he will become entertaining, hopefully he can pull it off before it's too late.

420 04-05-2009 06:46 PM

Jimmy Failon? He's no Conesy but I'll watch him.

Maybe Spike Feresten can take over next.

CIVMatt 04-06-2009 06:06 AM

Fallon is not funny or clever, ever

Pleasurepays 04-06-2009 06:07 AM

almost all talk shows in the day or night fail miserably, almost immediately.

Joshua G 04-06-2009 07:40 AM

He needs to lose the tie. Loosen up.

TheStout 04-06-2009 07:48 AM

Conan was funny before the show. He wrote for SNL for many years and was a writer for The Simpsons during, in my opinion, the best years of the show. I have never thought Fallon was funny and dont think he will last long. :2 cents:

Juggernaut 04-06-2009 08:17 AM

David Letterman will always own this format :2 cents:, if it wasn't for Paul being a continual annoyance I'd watch it a lot more than I already do.

Now watching any of Jimmy Fallon's opening monologues makes me cringe. I haven't seen writing that bad since seasons 1 and 2 of the Simpsons.

Also, that episode of the Family Guy where they hammer him for always looking at the camera in skits, (who does he think he is, Carol Burnett) was right.

Jimmy Falon is a douche and is a perfect example of fame by luck, not talent.

In my opinion, someone like John C. McGinley should be given a talk show desk...

I do agree that it will take time for JF to get used to doing a 1 hour show.. But the quote above says it all... JF was never really that good, the only thing I liked with him was "Cowbell" and he still tried to laugh and screw that up..

John-ACWM 04-06-2009 10:43 AM

There are worst shows out there so it's not that bad

...in full Dr. Cox character...

That would fucking rule.

they same the same thing about Conan and his verison of Late Night lasted longer than Letterman's. Give the guy some time to get into a groove.

NicAngel 04-06-2009 11:45 AM

its awful! its painful to watch. the network was really scraping the barrel to find a host.

BradM 04-06-2009 11:46 AM

He is awful.

Tom_PM 04-06-2009 11:50 AM

I never thought Fallon was that great. His talk show is not bad I would say. It's clearly early still..

But you know what, I dont and never have cared for Leno as host, but I DO think he's pretty funny as a standup/during monologue.

It'll all come out in the wash eventually.

tiger 04-06-2009 12:04 PM

I couldn't even watch it, it was terrible.

Drake 04-06-2009 01:28 PM

That's a tough gig for sure

Fallon will probably improve (Carson Daly I think had a similar start and is similarly a douche but isn't doing too badly now) but Fallon is a no talent hack...so no-talent that I think he has anti-talent so I honestly doubt even an improvement of his show would be worth watching. Ferguson = new Conan IMO - pretty funny actually and I sure wasn't expecting him to be.

derrick1 04-06-2009 01:55 PM

We are probably cutting him short too early. Let's give him some time. He'll never be Conan though....

donkevlar 04-06-2009 02:18 PM

Fallon was NEVER funny... one of the worst SNL cast member's of all time. Conan was nervous because he'd never done live TV before... What's Jimmy's excuse?

And WTF is he doing on The Roots' latenight show?

2MuchMark 04-06-2009 02:56 PM

Fallon was really funny on SNL I thought, but mostly because he was laughing and having fun with his job. I saw him host the MTV awards years ago and he was VERY funny. He was the best part of the show.

Fallon's new show though seems boring... I have no interest at all in watching it. The few shows I have seen though are just dull.

Conan and Leno are great, but I prefer Conan. Very very funny all the time. The best bit ever is CONAN GOES TO INDUSTRIAL LIGHT AND MAGIC. Just killer funny.

I thought Kimmel did well in his early days.

I just don't like Jimmy Fallon, never really did. I always considered him kind of irritating and not very funny.

It's gonna take a whole lot to change that perception for me, and honestly, I probably amnot going to ever give him the chance.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-06-2009 03:31 PM

Oddly enough I think Craig Ferguson is the funniest guy in late night right now...

gmr324 04-06-2009 03:49 PM

I watched his first night with Deniro and was as bored as Deniro was. I've never watched him since.

The sheer number of talented people in America that are probably available is enough of a reason in itself... let alone the fact that he's way too untalented.

No more a fickle business than that of TV and movies. I don't get why Hollywood always uses the same people to play parts when others would do it better.
