why is rackshack.net's pricing so cheap
i've been looking around at dedicated server pricing.... still learning a lot.
rackshack was mentioned here on the board. can someone tell why their prices are so low compared to their competition's? |
you get zero support.
|
hard to say. maybe they use cheap equipment, don't spend much on tech support, etc.
|
depending on the amount of traffic you have it maybe good to go with raqFUCKSshack.net but they cap ya at 400 kps I found this out the hard way funny thing is today dns was done pointing to my new server and I have hit a record of 33 signups today the first hour aftert the dns propagated i was doing 1400kbs so that is my thought

They have more problems then a cologroup virtual account. Look them up and you'll see. Maybe cologroup dedicated server would be better if you want something cheap.
likewhoa would be my choice though.. |
rackshack support is great! they even have 24/7 irc support.. along with formus and message boards...
ive never had a problem with them, however for the price i would never consider hosting anything TOOO important on their servers. if your new to this i wouldnt suggest going into anything you dont understand or looks 'too good to be true:2 cents: |
Hate to burst your bubble, but Thumbserver Rocks the party when it comes to a dedicated server.
Premium bandwidth at Cogent prices. |
I had a problem with rackshack. Got a bad box canceled after 0 support on it and it took me 8 months to get my money back.
|
I can tell you for sure that they don't cap your bandwidth, and the support is adequate. Similiarly, AOL has over 30 MILLION subscribers and there are always people bitching and complaining about it.

Archer, try PHASTERVERS. Extremely hot support and very good prices. :thumbsup
They have everything I was looking for, and highly recommend them. |
I use them for tgp posting only, and have noticed that more and more tgp's block Rackshacks net?
|
i think rackshack is ok
|
Like 'em or loathe 'em the sad truth is there's a LOT of companies around charging 10 times the amount and with far worse customer service.

At least with Rackshack, I can get a support person on the phone 24 hours a day, email or call the ceo, or leave a nasty message in their on-line forum which they (usually) won't delete. I have 2 servers for a critical premium site at Rackshack, doing the $129/month deal. As long as you are a Linux admin (or willing to hire one) Rackshack is a good solution. Keep in mind though, you get what you pay for. Not much support, no backup etc. Just the way I like it.:winkwink: |

thanks guys.... interesting stuff
of course maybe they're just using a 'lowest price' business strategy. |

Yep, I host with them, excellent support and great prices. Thumbserver is solid company. |
are they cheaper than http://www.welfarehosting.com/ ?
|
Is cheaper usually better?
|
i have 2 servers, and once of those 10mbps servers, and everything runs fine, and support seems to get back to me within 10-20 mins
|
with rackshack its a matter of luck
you can happily host with them for two years without a single problem. if you have problems from the first month you better switch , I've seen servers offline for 3 days, because of a billing mistake (their billing dept. can't be contacted during weekends) they change your ips whenever they fell like, some of the times without letting you know. some time ago it happened that they deleted some servers by mistake, if you fuck up your kernel upgrade, the best thing you'll get will be a clean install,(for an extra fee ofcourse). but their happy customers are about 80%, so they don't give a damn fuck about the unhappy ones, get your shit and move on. rackshack is how they say "webhosting made simple" |
