Chicago Bears win Jay Cutler derby...

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Chicago Bears have sent two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and quarterback Kyle Orton to the Broncos for quarterback Jay Cutler and a fifth-round draft pick.

The Bears held the 18th pick in the first round of the draft.

As a long suffering Bears fan...this finally gives us a QB... but did we give up too much?

After watching what Orton did last year, I think Cutler can only do better.

I can't believe the Broncos screwed this up so bad, he's going to be a great one.

Can't wait to watch the bears this year.

And the news is getting better, as long as he stays healthy, Beats just signed Orlando Pace as well.

:thumbsup

Damn. I can't believe it really happened. First Shanahan and now this. Pat Bowlen has destroyed the franchise. :(

You do not know shit, Ortan would of been perfect. as a bears fan i want lovie fired. Kyle performed great before he got injured last year. Now we get a whinny little bitch as a QB fucking joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree to a point... But...Cutler has the cannon... and fits the offensive scheme...Orton just doesnt have the deep ball... he has the mid range accuracy... nothing deep is ever close... plus Cutler can scramble, and will be able to dump off to Olsen and Forte... makes for a great fit i think.

Add in Pace now too... at LT, Move Williams to RT...swing man in Shaffer..and put Ominayle at LG... whew.

I think you are wrong about this. I like Orten and thought she have started for the Bears all along..... but Cutler is a rare talent. He make make some incredible throws across his buddy on the run that are almost impossible to defend. He is the real deal. I have watched every game he has played in the pros and I feel like he is a legitimate top flight franchise QB. It is a good day to be Bears a fan. :2 cents:

Orton was playing good early last year, but he still has a problem watching his intended receiver from the moment the ball is snapped until he throws it. He can't seem to fix that. His deep throws were coming up short as well but that could have been because of the injury.

He's a good solid backup but not sure if he will ever be Championship level starter. Although most athletes have one breakout year so if he is with the right team, he could do good in the future.

I honestly think Ortan was a great scrambler, remember that is how he got injurded, when he was hit out of bonds. Fact is he returned to early in the season and did not heal all the way. I think if Ortan had the chance we would have had some great deep balls, problem is our damn receivers can't hold onto shit.

I am not denying Bitchler is a rare talent but his attitude is that of a whinny little bitch and I do not see him as a leader. I think lovie will also have pissed off players because Lovie last week said Ortan was our quarter back and traded him without question.

Fact is we had ortan all this time and lovie stuck with grossman till last season and that was a mistake. I think ortan will prove everyone wrong when he shines in denver.

Finally, we have a real quarterback...Pls do not mention Orton and Cutler in the same sentence:thumbsup

huge move for the Bears. name me the last 25 year old Pro Bowl QB who has been aquired in a trade or even via free agency? it just doesn't happen in the NFL. Not sure when the Bears have ever had a QB with this guy's talent - not in my lifetime that's for sure. and don't say McMahon, good QB but not great.

on the other hand.................. this guy makes a pretty good argument that the Bears are gonna regret this trade.

Bowlen has officially beat out Al Davis as the most idiotic owner in the league.

Snake Doctor 04-02-2009 07:35 PM

My take is that the trade is the ultimate win-win.

The Bears are built to win now, they have an awesome defense and special teams, they just haven't been able to find a QB.
Now they solve that problem and are immediately the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.....although I still don't think they'll be good enough to beat the best of the AFC once they get there.

The Broncos get Orton, who will compete with Chris Simms for the starting job. (If I were them I wouldn't draft a QB this year) One of those guys may be the answer at QB, especially Simms, who I don't think was ever given a fair chance to prove himself at the NFL level.

They have two 1st round picks this year to help rebuild their shoddy defense, and if Simms or Orton don't turn out to be the answer at QB, next year's QB class is loaded and they'll have two 1st round picks again, so they'll have the ammo to make a deal for whichever one they want.

If Simms or Orton turn out to be the answer at QB, then they can load up on that many more good players and be perennial contenders, the way San Diego did with all the picks they got for the Michael Vick and Eli Manning trades, respectively.

Only if he drafts a kicker with the 2009 1st round pick he got from Chicago.

He's got a long way to go to beat Al Davis. :2 cents:
