Orlando Magic Cruel April Fool's Day Joke

jesus, this is pretty fucking cruel to do to somebody who actually PAID to go to an NBA basketball game. give him a pair of season's tickets, not as if the Magic sell out.

here's their version of an April Fool's Day promotion:

In an April Fool's joke that left everyone but the contestant laughing, the Magic made a fan think he was shooting a half-court shot for $100,000 at halftime. The fan was blindfolded, and the crowd was told beforehand to cheer as if he made the shot. The young contestant, named Dan, missed badly but believed he won and danced around the court in a frenzy. Before being told it was a joke and showed the replay he said, "I just got laid off at work." He was given a 100 Grand Bar of candy instead but was not laughing

If you went to the game, then the joke was actually on you. The contestant was a paid actor who was told to pretend like he made it.

Is there a video of that?

not my fault - i copy n pasted that description of what went down from a wire news story.

Mutt 04-01-2009 11:41 PM

and reading that Orlando Sentinel article the writer says the crowd left the building still thinking the joke was on the guy/actor and not them. what kind of April Fool's joke is that where at the end you don't go 'April Fool's!!!'?

JD 04-02-2009 12:10 AM

dayuuuuummmm that's a pretty fucked up prank (if it was real that is)

tiger 04-02-2009 01:25 AM

that was smart getting an actor. I bet the legal department advised them to do that. Beucase the media would spin that joke to the point where they're force to pay out the $100k

Fletch XXX 04-02-2009 04:38 AM

maybe now people will realize these sports events are full of ringers and no one they pull from the crowd is anything except an actor. a paid part of the tnertainment, but the average joe has no chance of winning 100k at a free throw.

jokes always on the idiots in the stands, then again sports fans tend to believe anything, look at wrestling lol
