This could be just the ticket to re-invent and rejuvenate the online adult entertainment industry. Of course, it is several years away from being available outside of the research lab. However, at the pace of exponential growth in technology, I don't think it unreasonable to say that we could see the first consumer market devices becoming available within a decade. And, yes, at the moment the technology consists of a huge helmut with wires, and other equipment, but one day I suspect we will have available to us something like a small device that is inserted into the ear, or discretely attached to the scalp, and we may then find ourselves using the technology for a host of applications -- such as operating computers and home entertainment equipment, driving cars, and possibly even communication.

when this technology advances to mass markets, and people will be able to control devices just with a power of thought (which is very cool - we're so limited with singe mouse control), then we will want to expand that experience to bring more interactivity from the computers as well - like having it influence our sensations (when virtual reality becomes almost feel like real experience, example: imagine lemon and you get its taste inside - we will do same thing with technology - we would want to have those sensations added to our experience with computers) that is when real problems will begin to occur - someone will have a virus out there somewhere making people in complete veggies by cooking their brains out or making consciousness overflow heh
