Anybody know of a good AUSTRALIAN web host ?
looking for a professional and reliable aussie based web host for porn sites...
thanks in advance!! :winkwink: |
AU bandwidth in general is pretty expensive.... There a particular reason why you are trying to stay within AU?

btw, what's this i am hearing that you can't host porn web sites on aussie web hosts really... ? |
That's correct, you can't host porn in australia, not even boobs, if a complaint is made your host will shut down your site and charge you any fee that get charged for using porn on .au hosting.

host your sites in the US

Aussies seems to love the nanny state and the government telling them what they can and can't watch. And just for the record, I'm an Aussie... but yes, we suck! |
that is pretty fucking unbelievable
thanks all for the input appreciated! |
Even if you could set up in Australia... wouldn't it be quite slow for your North American and European consumers? I've always heard the Australians complain about lag times with American sites... I'm not sure if that's still an issue.
I always thought the whole "illegal" thing was mind boggling. |

google prioritizes web sites that are setup locally when it comes to geo markets we have the .com.au domains for this as well hosting them in australia somewhere would give us a big time SEO boost |

Ppcwiz hit me up if you are looking to host those sites in the US or Amsterdam. Webair has some great deals going right now on managed dedicated servers we have many clients who are located in Australia and target Australian markets and their sites perform great. Send me and email with your server requirements.

Perhaps you could set up some sort of proxy in Australia so people are connecting to a local IP, but you're able to switch the DNS to the "real" IP if your host receives a takedown notice?
Personally I'd avoid hosting anything in AU. As well as being expensive hosts are going to be jumpy now that the laws and fines ($11k/day past the first 24 hours) have reared their ugly head again. As well as the risk of site disruption due to a takedown notice there's also the potential for direct "interest" from the AFP. |

Google AU seems to be dropping the ball lately anyway... if I select "Sites from Australia" there are often several USA based sites in the first page of results. There is nothing at all to suggest they're Australian - WHOIS contact, geoIP, domain name... bzzt...
