Whats deal with these online porno sites only offering reaccuring charge memberships?

This is the conversation i witnessed on some mainstream surfer board:

What's the fucking deal with these online porno sites only offering reaccuring charge memberships?

I want join one and will happily pay the 30 bucks, but not if they are going to automatically charge my card every month.
Yeah, yeah, they say you can cancel at anytime, but fuck that.
Once month is all I want.

When will these idiots figure out that nobody wants to deal with that shit?
Once they do they'll likely make way more $$, but since these people probably can't be trusted anyway they'll likely never figure out it's more profitable to be honest and not try to rip people off every chance they get.

They rely on people being both stupid and lazy.

go to any decent torrent site and you can download entire commerical porn websites in one file.

for free.

only morons pay for porn.

I've always found anything I wanted by typing "sitename pornstarname rapidshare" in google.

I know a guy who spams Craigslist 24/7 (with the aid of some software) with links to pay-to-view porn.

Of course, he disguises it as a personals ad, which leads to a "dating" site (where the porn links are).

He makes $300K a year, easy.

:)

:1orglaugh @ $300k a year from CL spam!

but ya I've offered one month non recurring for years. The key is to charge them $5-7 more than recurring and if you see more non recurring than recurring raise that non recurring up a dollar or so to get the ratio you are happy with. You are leaving money on the table if you don't offer non recurring cause so many surfers don't trust they will be able to cancel recurring cause of all the scammers

the guy goes into great detail how it is set up and done (i'm not reposting it here)

i dont have any reason not to believe him.

most surfers that will pay for a paysite membership dont spend time on boards IMO.

Get a grip wacko...Im saying that surfers that use boards are saavy enough to find free porn anyways. I think the larger portion of paysite members are propably not internet experts that frequent all the porn boards. I think i have a little experience in the membership game. Idiot.

My best year in CL spam was $240k..... I'm sure 300k is possible.
I quit years ago though when every idiot got into it

not all surfer boards are that way. Look at free ones and a few others. Hell back in 04/05 I use to get joins everytime I posted at surfer boards. Not talking about the boards where you find full site rips but ones where you or your model posts 5 or 6 images from her latest updates

Well the first post from that board that was quoted here was a guy who wanted to buy a membership but the site didn't offer an option that suited him.

I think the average webmaster doesn't have any clue as to why the average surfer joins a site. If you think the only people who signup for sites are people who haven't discovered torrents, tubes, or some other sharing service, you're very mistaken.

Pretty much everyone with a computer and an internet connection has heard of limewire or rapishare or other similar services, yet iTunes has still sold 6 billion music downloads.

I think two of the biggest misconceptions in our business, are that 1) people who buy memberships don't know where to get free porn, and 2) that porn is only an impulse purchase.

bdld 03-28-2009 08:33 PM

recurring is where the real money is at, abandoning that model would be suicide.

I never said i think that only people sign up dont know about torrents, tubes, ect. I said MOST people who buy memberships to sites dont frequent adult boards. I think i have a clue why surfers join my sites.
I think most webmasters who only push affiliate sales dont know shit about members or why they join a site. If you own your own proggie, know your niche, and push sales to other proggies, then you can speak about this. If not your blowing wind

Oh and I would say the majority of people on the net dont know what the fuck rapidshare or limewire is. I think you overestimate surfers knowledge.

Let us not degrade our customers. Any person can get "free" * in the digital realm. Now it equates to a time, money & respect factorization in the mind of the all powerful consumer.

If you are cool and your shit is good, they will pay you to help you out rather than fucking dick around with paying gay ass rapidshare, straight up.

Faggotz bangin k4rdz GTFO.

Solid fair business models. 2k9

I've looked at stats of sites that offer a non-recurring monthly option and I don't see higher sales enough to justify the lower earnings per member.

The only non-recurring option I would be comfortable with would be a more expensive multi-month.

That was made up for this reason...

affiliate: Why do your tracking cookies last only 2 days for my traffic?
sponsor: Porn is an impulse buy.
affiliate: Oh ok. Guess it doesn't matter then. C-ya!
