My puppy Lars had to have surgery!!! :( (pics)

My puppy Lars, who is 19 months, had to have surgery. I rescued him when he was 16 months. He was in doggie jail for 6 months before that, because he had a problem with biting, but this couple at the center kept him alive because he really is a good dog he just needed some training and discipline. When I picked him out he snipped at me, and I said I’LL TAKE HIM!!! haha

http://lorynslounge.com/lars1gfy1.jpg

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy2.JPG

He had this bump on his chest and it grew to this huge HUGE red infected puss thing in a matter of 2 weeks. So I took him to the doctors and they had to cut it out. Poor guy has tubes in his chest that I have to clean out twice a day.

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy6.jpg

I took the covers off my couch, put a feather mattress and a black blankie on top, because he drips blood, and love all over him. He whimpers and everything, it just breaks my heart. But he feels better with Mommie lovin’ him.

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy7.jpg

But when I have to leave the house I put this tube around his neck so he can't lick his boo boo, and the kitties do not like it at all. They chase him everywhere, poor guy. But the tube is so fucking funny, it looks like he is getting ready to go to the beach and swim. haha

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy8.jpg

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy9.jpg

Poor guy got sick of having his picture taking. He said, "Mommie quit making fun and laughing at me." haha

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy10.jpg

But his still plays and gives kisses. That sweat shirt on me use to be a whole sweat shirt, until we were done playing. haha

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy14.jpg

http://lorynslounge.com/larsgfy15.jpg

The lab work on the puss thing isn’t back yet, but it really grew deep into his chest. So I am so worried. If it comes back that something is wrong, I will be so devastated. I love him so much. He is such a happy dog, he loves to play all day, and he is SOOOO protective of his Mommie. When people come over they can’t come near me and I have to keep him on a leash. So I have a doggie trainer coming over with two friends so we can practice different people coming into the house and teaching him to be good. He is a young dog so that has a lot to do with it, but he is so fucking smart. He learns every trick so fast. I play games with him all day.

Anyway I thought I would share my baby’s pain with you guys and show you how handsome he is even with a big boo boo on his chest. Fingers crossed nothing is wrong with him.

PurrrsianPussyKat 03-28-2009 12:44 PM

Poor baby! Hope his boo boo heals up fast and he's all better soon! :)

stickyfingerz 03-28-2009 12:45 PM

Always worriesome when a pet is sick or at risk. My oldest dog was puking up black lagoon type bile week or two back, and I thought she had blood in her stomach, turns out she got into the grease catcher on the grill on the porch and ate a big ass amount of tar looking grease over a year or two old and puked it back up lol. I thought I was going to have to bury her in a day or two till I saw the lick marks in the grease. lol phew. Hope yours recovers fully Loryn. :thumbsup

Thank you. I am doing everything I can to keep his mind off of it. His sister knows something is wrong and she is always laying next to him and smelling him to make sure he is okay. It's so cute!!!

plyndrty 03-28-2009 12:46 PM

I'm a dog owner to and know how they can rip the heart out of your chest at times. I hope your puppy has a quick recovery and the test comes back negative...

JaneB 03-28-2009 12:47 PM

I am sorry to read that Loryn. Lars is a handsome boy. I hope that the lab work comes back fine. He is lucky to have a mom that loves him so much.

OMG I would be on the ceiling with worry. Thank God it was just that. That is a scary story. I am going to have night mares now. haha

Thank you, I really hope it is nothing. At first I thought it was just a BB because he has one in his upper arm on the side and the little bump on his chest felt the same way. Someone shot him with a BB gun twice. :( I would love to bump up my hand BB gun to the point of not being able to close it without standing on it haha, and shoot them in the dick or the tit. :disgust I have done it before so not seat off my back!!! haha

I know, I would take that pain for him if I could. At least I can understand what is going on, he doesn't know why this is happening to him and it breaks my heart. :(

AaronM 03-28-2009 12:58 PM

Poor Lars. :(

Good luck to you both. :)

Despite he had surgery, I'm still jealous! He has such a nice home, I wouldn't mind being in his paws ;)

Hope he recovers well, sure he will though :). How much did the surgery cost you?

candyflip 03-28-2009 01:10 PM

All our dogs had health insurance coverage for just this type of thing. Thankfully we haven't had to put it to use yet.

All paws crossed for you here Loryn.

It is so funny watching him run around with that thing on too. It's like he is saying, "Okay Mommie let's go. I have my floatie on and I am ready for the lake." haha

He has doggie insurance, so it cost $300, including the lab work!!!

I had to buy that tube, because they didn't have any cones that were big enough for him at the Vets. But I hate those cones so I wouldn't have put that on him anyway.

cykoe6 03-28-2009 01:46 PM

Damn you must be a nervous wreck. :( I just had my youngest cat spayed and I have been frantic all week. She also has one of those inner tubes so she cannot lick her wound. She really hates it. I hope you dog gets better. :)

Thank you!!! Scratch the kitty all over for me, because those cones stop them from being able to scratch themselves. That is what makes me feel so sad with those cones. That can't scratch anything!!! :(

Hope everything turns out good. Our lab just had his third surgery in the last year. This time results all came back negative (had stage 2 cancer in a leg) but now the leg is filling with fluids and has to get drained. Hopefully it stops soon or they have to go back in and see what is causing it.

Yes, they gave me these chewable pain pills and he loves them. I actually give him one and a half instead of one, two times a day but he stills gets super uncomfortable and whimpers at times. That is when I put him on the couch and massage his back and scratch all those hard to reach places. It seems to calm him down. I have itched around the boo boo a few times and that has helped too but I don't think that is a good idea!!!

I had a thought - change the tube for a whoopie cushion - that should provide hours of entertainment.

Seriously, glad that you have so much love for him and I can see already that he is returning it. Thanks for sharing the story - best of luck and keep us updated

I have to say your story made me smile

I believe that there is a good dog inside every dog and it's up to the owner to cultivate that. I've seen many mismatches in my time and it makes me happy to hear how a dog that got off to rough start can somehow cross paths with it's perfect owner. For him to find just the right person with the mind and means to give him the best of care, through the good times and bad, is nothing short of remarkable.

I wish you and Lars many years of fun as he rewards you for all the TLC :thumbsup

Thank you very much and I agree. When I went to meet him and the lady said he had been in doggie jail for 6 months because they couldn't find him a good home due to biting, I couldn't believe. My heart broke. He is so handsome and perfect and such a happy playful dog, he just needed someone who could handle such a big powerful dog. I grew up with a big boy like him so I knew how to be a pack leader, haha. He snipped at me once when I first met him, and to me that meant powerful and smart just young and needs some training so I took him home and from the moment I got him in the truck he was like, "Hi Mommie, where are we going." We instantly bonded. I ran him on the beach, he came when I called him. It was a true perfect match. Never had a problem with him.

I hope to have many years with him, at least 15. I can't imagine losing him and I have only had him for 4 months. He loves to go for bike rides. He runs I ride, and that fucker runs at 15 MPH for over a mile. He loves it. Just haulin' ass. I do it every day twice a day and that release of energy keeps him in shape and well behaved. I am very blessed!!!

sexandcash 03-29-2009 12:45 AM

awwww....I'm so sorry to hear about Lars....I hope he recovers speedily and sending him lots of love and doggie biscuits.
He looks like such a sweetheart
