blogs, htmk redirects, and SE's
 

Say I have a blog that I dont want to mess with anymore - and I want to put an html redirect in it, so that if someone clicks on it, rather than going to the blog, they end up wherever I decide to send them.
with the redirect code in there, will SEs still index the entire site, or will they stop when they see that? and would I get penalized in any way?

They will stop..

Just let the blog sit. it will maintain traffic for a while and then start to slip off. In the mean time you make some sales.
