LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- Angry mobs stabbed and set fire to bystanders Thursday in rioting that erupted after a newspaper suggested Islam's founding prophet would have approved of the Miss World beauty pageant. At least 50 people were killed and 200 injured.

mind you, some might openly question the choice of Nigeria as a location for Miss World (or some of us even the existence of Miss World all together). Miss World cares so much about women that they take it to a country where a woman is currently waiting to be stoned to death for getting pregnant before marriage. Then, they act in suprise when the Muslim portion of the country voices their disaproval of having lightly clad women walking around.

Nigeria is an interesting country that is always on the verge of turmoil. The Miss World orginization is alteast guilty of crass stupidity and lack of concern for the women of Nigeria.

sucks to be in the miss world pageant this year, you'd think that if you got to represent your country in a competition like that, you'd at least get to go to Paris or Milan or New York or something..

I wish every organized religion would just go away. It causes nothing but problems in every country. I think they are all fruit loops especially these ultra fanatics in the middle east.

I stopped being a Catholic when the priest running our parrish back in the 70's used the church's money to build a tennis court next to the house where the priests lived. Talk about a crock of shit.

I didn't read the other thread (yet) but maybe you can explain to me how saying that Miss World are retards for holding their pagent in a country which basically sees women as little more then livestock constitutes defending Muslims and/or being Muslim.

Whether or not its right for some Muslims to treat women badly - it still doesnt make sense to hold a beauty pagent in a country where people are hostile to women in general.

Shit you can get attacked by the "Political Correct" in the United States for holding a beauty pagent....! At least they can't get away with attacking you though.

Well, I never said it was right. Of course killing people and rioting is wrong. I NEVER said it was right, I never once defended it. However, since you mentioned it I would be just as wrong if it was done by the Chritian portion of Nigeria as if it is done by the Muslim portion.

I said it was stupid to hold this thing in a place known to object to such things. For example, if you go know that a country is anti-american and you are in danger you are hardly going to go running down the street yelling 'hey look at me I am American'. It was irresponsible for the pagent to put its contestants in that position.

Also, in a large portion of the world this story about it being held in Nigeria has been followed since it was announced it was being staged there. So, I was reacting more to the invetable turn out of the story. See, I care about the women being stoned to death and I think it was WRONG for the pagent to pretty much endorse such practices by taking their women there and pumping money into the gov't that will carry out the sentence.

So, I was not defending the rioters in anyway, more like slamming the hell out of Miss World't money grubbing, no moral stance, suprised that what the whole world told then would happen happened, idiot owners.

P.S. it is being pulled out of there and being staged in London, which will be loads of fun.
