Any way to make your Internet faster?
Besides downloading those programs...
I'm on cable but getting dial up speeds  |
Help...
|
umm
call your isp and have a technician come out to do a line check & signal strength check. He'll be able to tell if a cable is bad or a connector is rusty or loose, which could cause packet loss and/or collisions and therefore slow transfer rates. If they can't find anything they might at least give you a month free to make up for it. |

http://www.rogershelp.com/help/home.shtml I'm in a college neighbourhood, there are 2 colleges here. I'm sick of their shit...already cancelled and switched to DSL. |
Hmm. I got so fucking tired of DSL problems I switched to cable, and overall have been pretty happy. Check out:
http://www.dsl-list.com/dsl_problems-west.htm Qwest is notorious for its poor service. I remember one night (you won't believe this) being on hold for more than four hours trying to get through to a techie. I finally went to bed without talking to anyone. That's when I decided Qwest DSL had to go. Prior to DSL, I had a satellite service (built into my apt building). It was FANTASTIC. Faster than cable or DSL and the same speed in both directions (upload speed is important for a content provider). Then, the fucking provider went belly up. Ouch! |
I've had a few friends with cable and no one has experienced anything like that, though I've heard if the cable is overloaded with subscribers like what happens in a condo or apt. bldg. speed can dive down fast during peak times, especially if you live in a bldg with lots of pornmeisters downloading movies and big pic files continuously or on one of the P2P networks downloading apps and MP3's all day and night.

... no doubt here, you´ve made the right decission! |
I've been on Earthlink DSL for 2 years now with no problems. Almost 100% uptime, $50/mo, 100kbps up, 250 down.

I think Canada had it first though, so our prices are cheaper. |
go to Speed Guide . It shows you how to open up your connection. If you are using windows a lot of settings are set low........and depending on what windwos you use some settings are set for dial up. So its good to change them.
