What is the best overall virus/spyware protection?

I'm sick and tired of trying to find something that works,

somebody please suggest something free or paid that covers everything.

I use Avast and it hasn't failed me yet. http://www.avast.com

Avast has been great. I haven't had a virus yet while using it. It ALWAYS catches those little trojan installers that can get in through the most harmless looking link.

the best thing about it is transparency of it. You don't even know its there, until its crazy virus warning pops up and scares the living shit out of you.

I did a bunch of research before getting one for my new computer and I went with with http://www.avira.com . It seemed to always rank at or near the top in all the reviews. So far it has been great.

yep, that's why I continue using Avast. It has caught everything that has been thrown at it.

Kapersky causes your boot partitioning at the beginning of start up to be CRAZY if you have a blue screen crash or need to do a hard reboot.. :(

I love Kapersky except for that...

This thread just reminded me to install S&D

People seem to really like Node32

I just use AVG Free and am cautious (not overly) of my downloads.

I looked at some reviews, and went with Avira

dav3 03-24-2009 10:21 PM

I like malwarebytes and avira free.

I've been on paid AVG for 6 years, haven't had a problem. It's only about $40 every two years or something like that.
