do you honestly think that a hugely successful very specialized website like DeviantArt is using some common off the shelf CMS?

there's lots of social networking CMS software out there.

We know. We were just pulling your leg because it's pretty obvious to anyone that that is a custom script that they've put a lot of time and money into developing for their own site.

Yeah, no doubt it's custom.

There might be a few clones of it though. I've seen other sites that are almost exactly the same.

I run 3 fairly successful galleries using coppermine which is a free script found at coppermine-gallery(dot)net but I'm almost always doing some customizations. Check out a couple of my adult art galleries to give you an idea on what you can do: sexyamazons(dot)com and deadlyamazons(dot)com. I'm currently working on improving the profile. HINT, if you want to add a forum you HAVE to do it before installing Coppermine - big PROBLEM for me.

DeviantArt is custom, was developed in-house, and is maintained in-house.

There are no quality clones out there at present, all existing ones have major flaws.

It's wordpress with a free template.
