Affiliate program wants my photo ID or Passport, is that normal?

This international herbal pill affiliate program wants me to send him a copy of my drivers license or a copy of my passport, plus a utility bill.

Is that normal or does that sound fishy to you?
I want to get my money (close to $1,000) but I dont want to get my identity stolen, and theyre overseas.

Ive never had to do that with an affiliate program before.

munki 03-20-2009 05:31 PM

Sometimes things need to be verified...

Uhhh, just kidding about that.

Forging those documents might not go too well if caught.

sortie 03-20-2009 05:46 PM

Further :

Why didn't they ask for this when you joined?

Why ask only after they owe you money?

polish_aristocrat 03-20-2009 05:53 PM

what program? why can't you name them?

Sly 03-20-2009 06:05 PM

I've heard of this before.

I remember years ago... probably 10... a hosting company made me do the same thing.

After Shock Media 03-20-2009 06:07 PM

Why out the program? I have had numerous ones ask me to send in assorted tax forms after they owed me money and these could contain much more information than an ID or passport as far as identity theft goes.

Hell I can not even begin to count how many strangers in this country and others that have either seen my ID or passport.

Web hosts do that because they bill credit cards. Sponsors are way different. They don't need that info.

Ozarkz 03-20-2009 06:10 PM

The info on your ID and passport is nothing but your name and address

?????

Still seems a bit excessive..

Nah adult sponsors would not have any damn reason what so ever to make sure someone is of age or find out who they have as sub contractors working for them whom they pay.

Wagerboy 03-20-2009 06:24 PM

seems fishy to me. I would NEVER send that info to get paid. Maybe trying not to pay you due to the hassle? I dont know. What program?

LoveSandra 03-20-2009 06:30 PM

this is fucked up.I wont wasted 10 sec to scaned my ID.Fuck that shit.There are thousand of sponsors out there.More good, i may add.

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 03-20-2009 06:42 PM

My question is why does a sponsor need to know how much you pay for water and garbage and if you're behind on it or not, to send you a pay check?

Wagerboy 03-20-2009 07:06 PM

I dont know man, never heard of them but it doesnt seem right. Have you asked them why?

rowan 03-20-2009 07:25 PM

Ask if you can black out parts of the information and/or add a watermark (eg superimpose something like "PROOF OF ID DOCUMENTS FOR <company_name> NOT FOR ANY OTHER USE" at 50% opacity over it)

I had to send in a scan of my credit card and licence to theplanet in order for them to provision a new server. At the time I was a little surprised since I'd already been a client for over a year. I blocked out part of the CC number and random bits of my licence.

RayBonga 03-20-2009 07:28 PM

I would never do it.

It's just like the epass bullshit. I don't really get the people that send their info.

teh ghey 03-20-2009 09:14 PM

This is what theyre asking for:

WHAT YOU NEED TO SEND US

Identity Verification
We will need one Photo ID from the following list:

* Passport
* National ID card
* Driving License

Please note only copies of valid, up to date documents will be accepted.

Please provide a digital photograph or scanned copy that clearly displays:

* Document number
* No black / blurred portions (all details must be in focus and clearly legible)
* All four corners of the document
* Expiry / Issue Date
* Front and back of the ID card or license.

Address Verification
We will need one copy of one of the following:

* Utility Bill
* Bank / Credit card statement
* Tax Bill
* Home / Motor Insurance certificate
* Rental agreement
* Telephone bill for a landline

Please note documents must be complete (no cropping), issued in the last three months, state your full name and residential address.

Regrettably, we are not able to accept one document to confirm both your identity and address.

Wagerboy 03-20-2009 09:23 PM

thats just stupid. Tell them to fucking pay you already. No blacked out portions? Hmmmm

teh ghey 03-20-2009 09:25 PM

yeah I just pulled my links. Maybe theyre totally legit but I've never had an affilate sponsor ever ask this from me.
Id rather lose almost $1,000 than be forever worried about losing a lot worse.

papill0n 03-20-2009 09:36 PM

wow that is a massive amount of info they want

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 03-20-2009 09:42 PM

Tell them to send you the same information, to verify that you won't get fucked over and your identity/money stolen, see what they say.

wizzart 03-21-2009 03:53 AM

I would send them it but mask some parts :idea:
