I would say that Grease Monkey is a must. One can do a great deal with that -- either using the many existing scripts, or writing your own.

Others that I find particularly useful are:

InFormEnter

Linkification

NoScript

Resizable Textarea

Webmail Notifier

And, although not an addon for FF, it does provide useful search by simply high-lighting a word in web page and providing info. Get 1 Click Answers from Answers.com. There are other similar tools that are actual addons for FF, and provide even more information. I like the 1 Click Answers tool because it is simple and provides the type of info that I need/want from such a tool.
