Curious Regarding Hosting

:helpme :(
As someone new to the hosting industry I was curious regarding some of the following:

1. Why do so many host's websites not provide better contact information? Having visited numerous sites I have noticed that many lack the basic information to allow a customer to make contact with them, other than through blind drops.

2. Why are hosts afraid to publish contact numbers? (ROTFL, I actually had one tell me that he did not have regular telephone service!)

3. Why are hosts reluctant to divulge where their servers are actually located or that they don't own their own data-center?

4. Which two of the following three items seem to be more important to the average customer: Cost, Service-Quality, or Uptime?

5. Why do so many hosts and the industry as a whole appear so inflammatory :feels-hot :BangBang: when responding within these forums?

6. Why do so many customers choose the cheap host over the quality host? Again in my short time here I have spoken with some very intelligent, self-educated individuals and most people know you get what you pay for!

Well I look forward to all the insight and education you guru's can provide.

Thanks in advance,

Not always. Many times you can overpay and not get anything extraordinary.

Take a look at our website, then look at the questions you wrote.

Not all hosts are the same.

1. Why do so many host's websites not provide better contact information? Having visited numerous sites I have noticed that many lack the basic information to allow a customer to make contact with them, other than through blind drops.

Many hosts don't have the staff to provide phone support or any type of 24 hour support. I would look for a host that has a phone number and icq support 24 hours a day. I would test them out call them at 4am and see if someone picks up the phone ;).

2. Why are hosts afraid to publish contact numbers? (ROTFL, I actually had one tell me that he did not have regular telephone service!)

They don't have anyone to answer the phone during non business hours or even during business hours.

3. Why are hosts reluctant to divulge where their servers are actually located or that they don't own their own data-center?

Most hosts have boxes in someone else's datacenter. Those that dont give regular tours to their customers ;). Also what kind of support can you provide when you don't have people on site? Not very good.

4. Which two of the following three items seem to be more important to the average customer: Cost, Service-Quality, or Uptime?

Depends but this is a business so uptime and service-quality must come first. Prices have dropped over the years and costs have gone down quite a bit. Look for a host that has multihomed bw (has connections to more then 1 backbone) even the good carriers have downtimes. Being redundant is very important and 100% uptime is not a joke.

5. Why do so many hosts and the industry as a whole appear so inflammatory when responding within these forums?

Too many hosts fighting for business. Often hosts mislead new customers, so do your homework.

6. Why do so many customers choose the cheap host over the quality host? Again in my short time here I have spoken with some very intelligent, self-educated individuals and most people know you get what you pay for!

Because some customers cant understand the costs involved with keeping a full time staff and the cost to maintain a network. Don't think the hosts that are charging less are necessary making less money on you.
