Do you companies that do contest threads think people actually give a shit?

I haven't participated in any contest threads, I usually don't even bother reading them, not sure what real benefit you think they are doing for you :321GFY

They get attention. Lots of them, And a lot of the guys that start out in them end up moving some traffic.

Yeah, we're just getting ready to start advertising on GFY this month and that is one of the benefits of advertising...
	- Ability to do a contest - Bigger sig banners I'm feeling bad about the contest, but of coarse we want the affiliate exposure and I have heard that it brings them in. Sorry in advance. But I think we have to try it... Right? Question: If you were me, would you? J. |

by the same whole reason this crisis begun. everybody thought that all do the same.
so where are we now with all these AIG, CitiBank, GM, etc, etc, etc... not the same scale, but situation is 1:1 there's a rush in these threads, but there's no fish |

though GFY is still the best place to advertise all adult stuff, but contests are not working anymore.
	just IMHO |

Look at Fling, they exploded literally overnight thanks to word of mouth referrals from webmasters telling each other that it converted well... They didn't start advertising on GFY til many months later. If your shit converts, affiliates will want to promote it. Bombarding GFY with the same old generic ads won't get you that far... |

Bunch of marketing wizards in here.
It has nothing to do with "views". It has to do with keeping the company name towards the top of the thread list on the main page. They could give a crap if the thread gets 1000 or 100,000 views. That's why the entire post is summed up in the title.. Company A proud to announce the launching of New site X with $50 PPS. Contest whores do their work for them at .50 per post and the message is in front of webmasters for a week straight. Constant retention. Then after a week they launch the.. Winners of Company A proud to announce the launching of New site X with $50 PPS thread. Post your screen name to collect. Contest whores then bump that thread and keep it at the top for an extra 2 days for free. Nobody cares that the people who win the contests are not webmasters. The point of the contest is not to reward affiliates, its to keep the message in front of the real webmasters for a week straight. It's not rocket science. |

I understand the marketing part of it but i prefer not to work with companies who give away free money to uber annoying surfers.

The amount of people who have this program I'm sure is quite a small percentage.
Needless to say the same companies continue to market their new sites/promo's using this contest method so it appears to be working. |

Just because companies continue to do it doesn't mean it works well. They continue to do it because their competition continues to do it. |

Not everything is a conspiracy theory. Just because companies do similar marketing campaigns doesnt mean they are playing one expensive game of keeping up with the Jones'. It also could mean....drum roll please...it WORKS!! Not to hard to figure out. For a few hundred or small 4 figures they keep their name and new site/promo in the top half of the top industry board for over a week straight. I wouldnt be surprised if it had a higher ROI then the banner ads. But let me guess those companies doing banner ads are just sheep as well right? We'll just play it your way...all companies that start a thread contest are just doing so to keep up with a competing company (repeatedly) and they are worthless because all webmasters have some obscure program installed so they dont view the promo thread in question. You go with that. |
