Belize Bound -- Any Recommendations?

I'm heading to Belize this weekend for nine days of R&R with a buddy. We plan to party, get certified for scuba and check out some Mayan ruins. If you've been and have suggestions for places to stay/check out, please let me know!

First, ask for the ferry boat to Caye Caulker and stay in Hotel Paradise for a couple of days to get acclimated...Or even Ambourgis Caye since y'all want to party....

Then if you want to just dive, you gotta take a trip to Dangriga and then take a boat to Tobacco Caye, It takes you only a few minutes to walk the length of the island and you can see one side of the island from the other side....There's a place with cabins where I was fed three times a day....

Then you gotta go south to Placencia where the sand has the consistency of raw sugar....The partying is nice, the beach is beautiful and I had a great time......Also in Placencia, there are tours you can book which will take you to some Mayan Ruins, However, I didn't have time to go.

If you ask the tour people, they told me about a ruin in Punta Gorda which is farther south that hasn't been excavated yet and they're looking for volunteers....That's too much hard work for me so I said fuck it.

Damn I miss Belize.

Dude! thanks for the heads up! haha When were you there? Someone was warning me that the beaches are hit and miss there... especially on the islands, due to the mangrove trees?

I was there last April....Placencia's beach is always a hit and I love hanging out at the split at Caye caulker....

Now DIVING is a hit and miss but that's everywhere....But it seems that people start going in April to catch the Whale Sharks, which can be seen off Tobacco Caye.

My brother has a house in Belize. He runs a side business where he takes groups of people down fishing and scuba diving. I've never been.

Hey Doug.. I'm living in San Pedro right now.. if you're gonna hit the island here hit me up! :thumbsup

When hooking up your tours remember that tour folks here can be negotiable on prices, so don't just take the first price you're offered.. they may not like to barter so much, but they will, often you can get 2 for 1 pricing if you seem disinterested enough :winkwink:

If you like monkeys you should check out the Baboons by the Belize Zoo just outside of Belize City. The howler monkeys are the loudest living creature, and at the Zoo you'll get to see tons of the local wildlife, it's really cool.

Hope you have a great trip! :pimp

Definitely bring back some 1 Barrel Rum - is great sipping rum! Also try yourself some bitters while down there. I stayed south in Jaguar Reef - Kid B Bitters was the best! Enjoy Belize is an amazing place.

My recommendation is to get scuba certified before you go. Why would you want to spend your vacation time going to scuba classes, when you could be doing the fun dives instead?

RUTH: San Pedro, eh? I'm not sure where we're going to end up yet. We were originally looking for an all-inclusive but may just end up travelling around. I will certainly hit you up if I get to SP, though!

cfU: Bitters, eh? Never knew that would be an attraction... but I'll give it a go when I get there. I've been off the run since I was 16. Got smashed on it the first time I ever dranka nd haven't been able to go back. :)

Mr Pheer: Dude, I live in Montreal. I'd be happy as all heck to spend some days relaxing in beautiful, shallow water learning the basics than to do it up here. If I can get certified, and nothing more, I'll have had a good vacation!

I don't even think that they even have all inclusive resorts in belize....Either way, you would be missing out...The locals are friendly enough to where you don't feel threatned walking around...Just get a hotel by the water, rent a golf cart, and go...

I would upload some of my belize videos to youtube for you but I'm uploading files to my clipstore right now.

Belize is great. If you want to party then you'll probably like San Pedro the best.

If you are into fishing then you'll enjoy barracuda fishing for half day (morning) while in San Pedro.

Also if you have a free night in Belize City (not much to do there) check out the whorehouse & strip joint called Raul's Rose Garden - about 5 minutes from the Belize International airport. You'll find lots of cute latinas from all over Central America there.

BTW, if you have to stay in Belize City then stay at the Radisson Hotel and stay away from the Princess Hotel.

I hope you have a great time!

look out for bullet ants...they're native to those parts...

Just keep doing what you're doing... but if you do have a sec, I'd certainly love to see a vid! I have all week ;)

Doug of Montreal 03-16-2009 10:58 AM

PornHero: Thanks for the tips... not sure I'll stay in BC, though. We want the beaches! What was wrong witht eh Princess, BTW?! Or do i want to know?? :)

DrChango: I'll have to do my research... no idea what they look like, but have heard bad things. Thanks for the heads up!
