Something I never really understood and fucking hate.

Local news that lasts 30 minutes and yet they devote sooooo fucking much time to sports. It is often like half of the fucking broadcast on weekdays and forget the weekends or Fridays. I also know that there is plenty of news available and they could cover local stories a bit more as they are very short and lack enough information, plus this format has been happening since as long as I can remember for my age and that goes beyond mass cable and 24 hours news services.

Our weather segment is only like two three minute segments and where I am at the weather does matter as most of our local economy is based around it. Plus our normal weather guy is not a jackass and is pretty good to listen too, unlike his weekend replacement chick and or guy - at least the chick is cute.

Please do not try to say or even hint at that the small ass local news who has more technical issues than a build it yourself television from China is somehow in on some conspiracy to keep us in the dark - fuck they can barely keep the mic's on when changing segments.

heymatty 03-12-2009 11:40 PM

Local news is depressing.

Sports, weather distract you from how depressing it is hearing about a shooting at the local in and out or some teacher who has been texting sex stuff to students.

They can't show local interest shit like a local student won the national bee keeping championship because people would turn over. So they always cut away with like, Wow find out what crazy weather shit is happening here soon, find out after the break!

kane 03-12-2009 11:41 PM

I think it depends on where you live. A town with a lot of sports activity will have more of that in the news. Where I live we only have 1 pro team, an NBA team, so the sports does a segment about them every night then stuff about the local colleges. I would say our sports stuff is about 3-5 minutes total.

Actually just last night they covered on all broadcasts (5pm, 5:30pm, 6:30pm, and 11pm) about some kid who is off to the Scrips spelling bee in DC after winning all of the local and regional shit.

No major sports team here. Just high school, community colleges, and well that's it. Still do not need to hear so much and play by play crap about NBA, NFL, NBL, NHL, and for all I know bocce ball.

Like I said I do not have the weather hate. We are pretty weather based so it actually matters plus the guy can forecast pretty well (most often correct). Plus we get crazy swings in weather here so during parts of the season it can fuck you if you do not pay attention to it - unless you like dead plants, broken pipes, flooding, or whatever.

seeric 03-13-2009 12:04 AM

how you feeling lately man?

Better. Just had one of those events that the only thing you can do is sit down, smile and enjoy the ride as complaining or thinking it couldn't get any worse will not help any.

Quick version since I never shared.

Went to DR for appointment and he decided I needed to be admitted (fun) for tests.
Stayed a week - left with some antibiotics (posted about stay and during my stay).

Was home couple days and started getting really sick - went back to another DR for checkup.

DR visit discovers I caught something at hospital and need new pill.

Start new pills which are big capsules and on 2nd day one of them sticks in my throat right near or on windpipe. I can breath but it is like 80% choking and spitting. I try everything to get it down. Water about drowns me. Then it starts to burn like all hell. Say fuck it and go to ER.

ER is fast to get me a bed and then I have to wait for the ear, nose, throat guy to come in (takes like eons or feels like it - constant choking feeling and burning). ER guy goes to check for pill with camera which goes down your nose - I hear a comment about lidocaine and he says nah he is just taking it - WTF???? Anyways he shows the wife my vocal cords and pulls it out after not seeing anything but some swelling/redness. I think he knocked it loose. Now I have to stay as I can not swallow well or any liquid at all - goes down wind pipe.

In hospital again but in area with zero wireless ability. They switch me to IV medicine and I struggle with swallowing which sucks as I drink a lot. Plus I have bad veins so they go for a pick line (think 1 foot cord in your arm). Stay a week and released.

Had to do home IV meds for another week and it was making me sick as hell and drying the hell out of my skin making me all itchy and very cranky. At least as of a few days ago we got to pull that damn cord out of my arm and I am done with the meds.

Oh yeah they did a second and larger camera during stay which further fucked my shit up.

LOL, I feel your pain...

Sometimes when I wake up and turn on the TV ...on CNN it's "WORLD SPORT" for 1 hour
I'm like damn it, wish I would've slept in!

John-ACWM 03-13-2009 04:41 AM

I watch tv in rare occasions, few professionals

BigDickDFromCincinnati 03-13-2009 09:51 AM

the media is the devil!

Tom_PM 03-13-2009 10:06 AM

Dude, you should see my local ABC station.. they do celebrity shit! Who fucking cares if jennifer aniston and john mayer broke up again, but they "reported" that "news" today!

And I swear to GOD they do a "news story" on Dancing with the Stars every fucking day after that show was on tv. Oh surprise surprise, it airs on ABC.

I put it on because they have the best weather forecast, but nearly ALL of the rest of it is regurgitated garbage and useless trivia.

Reak AGV 03-13-2009 10:10 AM

If you dont like it, dont watch it.

Fletch XXX 03-13-2009 10:17 AM

the news is not news and hasnt been for decades, its advertisement.

I caught a glimpse of the news walking past the TV last night, and the newsguy was dressed in a Jockeys outfit with hotel ad web sites across the uniform, up and down each arm etc.... he sat there read out some spam for this hotel and i shook my head, he was advertising local horse races and hotels... nothing about news.

if you are watching the news pay attention to how they put adds in everything, you are just eyes...

turn the television off.

ill quote the man Bob Dylan here

"you dont need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"

_Richard_ 03-13-2009 11:33 AM

maybe they're experiencing cut backs?

JayDeeZee 03-13-2009 12:13 PM

It's cheaper and easier to report on sports, it's cheap filler content. It takes resources to put a news crew on a new local story each day.
