I don't think he wanted to hurt Bush.

He deserves to be punished, not for hurting Bush, but for being so disrespectful.

This wasn't about insulting Bush the person, it was an insult to America because Bush represents America. It's like he threw shoes at every single American.

You don't like Bush you can voice your concerns. There is freedom of speech now. Throwing a shoe at him is not going to solve any problems.

Having said that, he should get probation. None of the shoes hit. And since we aren't charging him with terrorism or attempted murder, the punishment should fit the crime/consequences of the crime.

The opinions expressed in this thread illustrate a much bigger problem in our society, IMO.

People's opinions of whether this guy should be punished, and how severely he should be punished, are based almost entirely on their political affiliation.
We also have people here claiming you'd be a hero if you physically harmed Obama, and others saying it's a shame the President didn't get hurt when this happened.

Bush's policies made my blood boil. His incompetence frustrated me beyond description. Yet I never, ever, wished him physical harm.
He was still my President. Even if you don't like the man, you should respect the office.

How can you be "proud to be an American" and hope that someone physically harms or possibly kills your President?

Do you realize how democracy works? It means that about half of the time, the other guys win and are in charge. Do you only like America when the guy you voted for is President?

It's a really fucked up situation IMO.

You can say the same thing about almost any President we've had in the past 100 years. People die because they send troops, and people die because they don't send troops.

Civilized countries can't allow foreign heads of state to be attacked when visiting, AND civilized countries can't allow attacks on their head of state at home either.
