Can I use old versions of Wordpress?
Of course I can, but is it advisable? I like the dashbaord from 2.3 much better than 2.6 and I'm not upgrading to 2.7 unless it has magical SEO benefit. What is the upgrade upside besides security?

I wouldn't recommend it. I seen some pretty fucked up things happen to old wordpress installs.

Good way to get hacked.
Unless you are able to patch it yourself. Or take the dashboard from 2.3 and put it into 2.7 or whatever. You also start losing compatibility with plugins, etc.. |
There may be some plugins to change the look of your dashboard, you should search for those, but like others have said; I wouldn't recommend using any old versions.

I havent come across a plugin to restore the look, I like the new look, I just spent a couple days upgrading over 30 sites of a client of mine that used 2.0.x and 2.1.x and 2.3.x of wordpress and migrating the plugins.
In the long run its worth it, the new dashboard offers so much more |
security risk central.. always stay current.. just that mindset of 'old school' in general will not only leave your WP open to risk, it will retard your progress as a person.

The WordPress guys can't seem to stop themselves from rearranging shit every few releases. Fucking annoying. I do like the 2.7 dashboard best with quick access to the menu on the left. No doubt they will probably change this too within 6 months.
