Why Sweden rules the web
I found this interesting article in the independent today. It's basically about the Swedish internet phenomenon and in some extent about the piratebay trial. A good read.

This comment to the article was quite interesting:
"There have been many positive moves in Post WW2 history in Sweden,, but it must not be forgotten how this was achieved and at what cost to the nation as a whole. They made a lot of money during WW2 from acting as neutrals; business men dealing with both sides and in particular bolstering the Nazi war machine. Sweden was also used as a transit camp for the Nazis to invade Norway. These facts alone had an enormous effect on the future place in history as it enabled the country to streak ahead while the UK was bankrupted physically, and emotionally by taking a stand against the Germans. The social engineering policies of the 60s and 70s were a sociologist's dream for a PhD research study as the state controlled the causes emanating within society; some of these had positive effects; education and medical care were top notch and still are to a large extant. The instrumental music taught in schools which I did was a great boon which produced many fine musicians, but that has become a lot less as in all societies it is the arts which are cut back when money is scarce, and it is. Do not be suckered in by the cosmetics of the Swedish life style as there are many serious problems, the consequences of which are seen in growing right wing ideologies of a nationalist racist hue, which although not new have become much greater in profile. If you really want to be ahead in the digital world then there is only one place and that is Japan. Europe, even Sweden is well behind." |

sweden has become less and less of an economical superpower in europe and scandinavia..
their currency is loosing ground to its neighbors. a lot of jews were rescued by sweden during wwii, they were boated over from denmark.. to this very day sweden is a leading country in human rights. and dont forget ABBA is swedish:thumbsup |
Picture Hollywood but 10X Worse
I dont see were human rights and digital media goes hand in hand along with speech of freedom. It's just the none thinkers in Sweden going here to GFY bragging about how awesome their Piracy is. It's a sad case actually, none outside the country of Sweden thinks this is some kind of award winning free speech contest. Am I right??? All americans are laughing at us.. the same with large european powers. Next thing we know all food are supposed to be free too, then we are not allowed to earn money through business or trading.. and next after that we are supposed to share all our own fortunes with clueless rabbit hole digging bums and socialists. And after that we are going to sell all or children to slavery, and share our wife with the neighbour next door. Socialism lives on some doing the thinking, and others just follow, and right now the clueless both follow and lead us. Its like in Hollywood but 10x worse. It's just a nauseating concept ready to fall, long before that I have left the country of 70% stealing bastards. And yet a huge % is crying that bankmen have any bonuses what so ever, while they download and feed themself on torrents. Just noticed the links to the Dance Bands,, yes that's about it. That's why some post about piracy and feel like we are some sort of people, with some sort of stamina. And can make up our own minds as individs. Kandah giving to much weight to crap that you shouldnt be proud of, like Nazi germany trades. Unless he is one of many racists living here. |

Meanwhile, on the other side of Stockholm, a new internet company has turned this demand for free media into a viable business model that the music industry seems willing to stomach. Spotify, launched in October last year, is a piece of music software that looks not unlike iTunes, yet allows you to listen to a vast, growing catalogue of streamed tracks for free ? as long as you are prepared to endure around a minute of advertising per hour. A premium version, costing £9.99 per month, suppresses the ads and offers exclusive content. Listeners can exchange their favourite playlists with one another online.
This internet jukebox's global user numbers reached a million this week and are increasing by 20,000 a day, while its catalogue of tracks grows at a similar rate. At least 250,000 Spotify users are in the UK, where the service recently became freely available for download. And, in February, it executed its first big industry coup, giving users the chance to hear U2's new album a week before its physical release. Spotify has harnessed a voracious appetite for sharing free culture online to create a legitimate alternative to online piracy. But it's a model that would never have been embraced by the entertainment industry without the likes of The Pirate Bay forcing labels and studios to confront the future. Both sites are part of an ever-fertile technology community in Sweden's melting pot of expertise, experience and innovation; Stockholm is, in attitude and actuality, the capital of a new virtual world. Now thats intresting |
