Linksys WRT54G2 router query

Does anyone use this router? Or another linksys router, as I'm sure it applies to others. For some reason the router is hijacking Firefox url bar searches -- and directing them to Cisco Linksys Websearch powered by Yahoo. I see no option in the router config to disable this very annoying hijacking of my browser.

If you are are familiar with this problem, and know the solution, I'd greatly appreciate your response.

Thanks for any assistance.

try this:

in the FireFox address bar type about:config
in the Filter field type keyword.URL
double click the entry and replace linksys search with
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-...ient&gfns=1&q=
click OK and you're done :)

Damn. Fast fix on that. Hope it works.

Thank you. However, it is already set to Google. I believe the hijacking is occurring at the router level, but I see nothing in the router config that would explain it. I'll take another look though -- and try to avoid smashing it.

These companies are getting ridiculous with their toolbars.

Indeed. And, I DESPISE all the toolbars that so many software manufacturers try to trick you into installing. In the case of the Linksys software, I did not install the tool-bar, if there even was one. And it is not a computer- or browser-specific issue, as all computer on the wireless network are being hijacked to Cisco Linksys's Yahoo powered search, so I'm fairly certain it is at the router level. It might not be so bad if their search was actually useful, but it is crap.

BTW ... I can across software for creating toolbars. As much as I hate them, I'm thinking they could be potentially good for affiliate marketing purposes. Anyone used custom designed toolbars for this purpose?

Try Netgear instead. I have had better luck than with Linksys.

I have WRT54G and this does not happen. I dont know the difference between 54G and 54G2, but I have not updated it yet. Now I dont know if I will.

Did you upgrade the firmware or anything?

The model # is the 54G2. But, yes I have upgraded the firmware recently, and this problem is new (for me) to the latest firmware update.

I have posted on the Linksys forum, and we'll see if I get a response there. If all else fails, I will be selling this router and purchasing from a different manufacturer, as I simply don't have the time or patience to continue fucking around with this.

Speaking of selling things, I have posted RAM for sale in the for sale forum here at GFY. If you have not already read that, please do, as the RAM (brand new) is going cheap!

I've heard third parties make firmware upgrades for them too. I wonder if you could roll back, or re-upgrade with some other version or something and compare.

I had specifically bought this router a couple of months ago because I wanted to be able to use Tomato firmware (after reading positive reviews of it on Lifehacker and elsewhere). However, then I discovered that the model of Linksys router that I bought is one of the models that is NOT compatible with Tomato. DAMN!!!

i run DD-WRT on my 54g, i dont know if you can do it on the G2, but its pretty hot firmware.
