But why listen to Warren Buffett? He doesn't know jack shit about economics, right?

Barefootsies 03-09-2009 09:06 AM

Agreed.

24 Hours new channels amplify just about everything. Bringing in armchair quarterbacks, and beating the top 7 fear stories to death all day long. One of the worst things to come along in decades.

:disgust

Yeah I watched that this morning.. I would agree and the media aint helping either, telling everyone how broke and worse off they will be in 6 months.

Scott McD 03-09-2009 09:08 AM

It's the same here. The news keeps telling us how shops are suffering because nobody is spending money. No fucking wonder we aren't spending since they are also telling us every damn second of the day that we will all be broke, out of a job, out of a home by Christmas...

pornguy 03-09-2009 09:12 AM

TURN OFF THE TV and Live Life.

Scott McD 03-09-2009 09:13 AM

Another thing, less than 2 years ago, our government kept going on about all this Green shit, and how they wanted us NOT to use our cars, and start using public transport for all our travelling needs. Which surely would mean us not buying new cars either.

Now, the shit hits the fan and they want us all to go out and spend our money on a new car, even though we haven't to use it ??

What's it to be. You can't have it both ways. It seems they want us to buy cars but not actually use the fucking things because it helps the economy, but it isn't good for the environment... :2 cents:

Americans and Canadians in General watch way too much TV. Turning the them into Zombies and also scaring the shit outta them.

Quagmire 03-09-2009 09:26 AM

There is nothing wrong with being careful and spending wisely, but people need to keep spending. You can't put your cash in the bank or under your mattress and think you'll ride out the storm.

err, i dont think canadians are as "fear-o-matic" as the US folks ...
google for "bowling for columbine" and watch all parts ... not only
the funny part by matt groening which pretty much explains why
US citizens are so full of fear ... https://youtube.com/watch?v=Zqh6Ap9ldTs

He predicted that unemployment will likely climb a lot higher before the recession is done, but he also reiterated his optimistic long-term view: "Everything will be all right. We do have the greatest economic machine that's ever been created."
Those are hardly reassuring words for the legions of salaried and time clock punching people out there.

When those folks are running scared, businesses always get clobbered :(

Warren's "optimistic long-term view" is all well and fine but it provides scant comfort to anyone who fears losing his shirt in the meantime.

Yeah, the media hype ain't helping any but the public is already spooked and has been since the first bailout.

My mental state improved drastically when I stopped watching cable news and reading political websites. I am so much calmer now.

I still watch the local news, but sparingly since their primary focus is negative news also.

ajrocks 03-09-2009 10:37 AM

good luck with that.

Cry me a river. You would think that the man who called derivatives "financial weapons of mass destruction" might have had his bets covered a little better. He obviously knew what the problem was so if he's so fucking smart rather than a market manipulator he wouldn't have lost much of anything. You can damn well bet he wants everyone to let Obama to continue on writing checks that you and I will pay for so he can get his billions back.
