Why not just read a book off your iphone or something? Seems like a waste of money.

james_clickmemedia 03-02-2009 02:58 PM

I bought one for my girlfriend at christmas, now when she goes to her mothers I won't have to pay the excess luggage fee due to her taking 10 books with her...

i went with the Sony Reader 700 instead because it handles PDF's and just about every other document that you would need MUCH BETTER then the Kindle.

Try getting a PDF on the Kindle...it's a pain in the ass. With the Reader 700 its drag and drop.

I ordered a new Kindle. Should have it soon. Already ordered a bunch of books for it off Amazon :)

4 inches doesn't require a leash.

Just a twist-tie will do. :1orglaugh

I haven't moved over yet and not sure I will for awhile. Couple reasons:

1) The books are in Amazon's format. That means that I'm kind of locked into buying from Amazon and all the books I buy from them can only be read on a Kindle. So in 5 years, what happens if Kindle dies off? What happens if a new e-reader comes along that is much better? Do I just have thousands of dollars of files that are worthless?

2) The price of books is still too high to justify. I can get the hardcover for $15 (less if used) and the Kindle for $10. With the book I physically own it. Can sell it later, read it later, or give it to a friend. I'd rather pay a couple bucks more and have that comfort.

3) I don't like carrying around nearly $400 worth of electronics with me. I have a bad habit of leaving things behind or misplacing stuff.

If they got the price of books down some more as well as the price of the Kindle, I'd give it a shot. Also a format that can let me transfer files from one e-reader to another. Seems like an interesting device though.

I got one for Christmas. Took me a few weeks to get into it, but I'm loving it.

tranza 03-03-2009 07:43 AM

Seems to be a nice gift..

slapass 03-03-2009 07:52 AM

The new one is better looking as I have the older one and it sucks as the page turning buttons are huge and you can't hold it without turning a page.

gornyhuy 03-03-2009 07:53 AM

I want one so bad, but I'm holding back for some reason. I bought a huge ipod really early on and it sucked by comparison within about 6 months.

Not my thing.
