Lord of the Rings - extended version
Just saw the extended version recently released on DVD. This has everything that was lacking in the general release. This version is definately the one to aim for if you read the book. Only things still missing is for one Tom Bombadil and the Galadriel Gift for Sam which probably will lead to the whole recapture of Rivendell in the 3rd book to be left out.
But I have to say this one is better than the general release which I thought was perfect. |
Yeah, I can see that but - 4 DVD's? It seems excessive to me. Its a great film but I'm not sure I'd bother fucking about with 4 DVD's.
Its tempting though..... |
2 are just Bonus material. The movie is split amoung the first 2 disks.
|
i dont understand why they had to split the movie, a thought a DVD could hold like 10 gigs of information. I figure a 3.5 hour wav file is a good 6 gigs, but I cant Imagine the video takes up more than 4 gigs. Frown.

They added a lot of detail. Much footage that is just showing background info on persons and landscape. |
Gonna have to get it. I loved the original movie, but there were scenes missing weren't there?

awww Sam needs those seeds or magic dirt. Are they gonna leave out the last chapter with the Shire fucked up?
There was some hobbit they met at Bree who was a spy. I forget his name but notice that guy wasn't in the movie. I believe Sam bought a horse from him as well. Well lots of details were taken out, I'll have to pickup the extended version. |
I'm sure they will leave out the Saruman and the shire at the end of Return of the King. That would make for a bit of an anti-climatic ending to a moive. I'm sure the end of the trilogy will be Sauron's defeat and Saruman will be defeated at the end of the Two Towers.

Galadriel not giving sam the mallorn seed and lorien dirt was very disconcerting.
The extended version is excellent. The added material adds a great deal ... makes the whole thing feel less choppy. As good as each individual scene in the movie is though, they cannot match the brilliance of the book as a whole. Still, i'm counting down the days to the release of the two towers. |
I thought the movie was too long as it was. I wonder how long this extended version is?
