homeland security act
http://www.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/...ity/index.html
are the repubilcans going to far with these 'special interest' provisions? what do you think these 'anit-terrorism' technologies mean for our privacy? i'm anxious to hear our industry's standpoint on this. |
It's all too obvious what they're trying to do with this... Throw some things in that have nothing to do with homeland security.. It always happens for one reason or another..
There'll be a bill proposal and others will want to include other nonsense with it to either keep it from passing, or to play bed partners with special interests... This is why Clinton wanted the line item veto so he could take off individaul things that were of no value to the actual bill at hand.. Without that, the whole bill passes or gets squashed.. In this case, they're wanting to pad some serious pockets for future favor returns.... |
don't worry about your porn privacy, as "moral" and christian fundamentalist as these republicans look they wont pass any laws that dont line their pocket book somehow. So i doub they'll ever shut us down, but they might find a way to tax the hell out of us. yay porn.

I'm not too worried about what the Homeland Security Act will do to on-line porn or porn in general. For the porn industry, I'm more worried about what new legislation the GOP government will introduce and what they'll start doing via pre-existing channels. Porn is more of a public-relations issue for politicians than anything else.
That's not to say the HLSA doesn't worry me. It flushes 90% of the constitution down the shitter (well, a good chunk was already gone) and they even left in total exclusion from the FOIA -- so now NOBODY will know what this secret government agency is really doing, not even congress. The FOIA is now moot. The implications of this power-grab by the Feds are UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE and I don't think the average person realizes just how serious this is. The Feds can now: - tap any medium (email, phone, etc) without warrants - track your reading habits through receipts/library checkouts (of course, nobody - not even your attorney - may speak of it) - break into your home anytime they wish without your knowledge - make you disappear without explanation - try you in secrecy and even kill you upon unfavorable outcome - operate in complete secrecy, answering to noone - blur the line between foriegn & domestic military actions - who knows what else... I haven't read the whole thing Much of this bullshit happening now has been wanted for a long time. Long before 911, the DEA, FBI et al were searching for ways to sneak & peak into anyone's home/life/communications without pesky warrants. These legislative attempts were always struck down or amended out (until the PATIOT act carried all of these through in one fell swoop). Was this 911 legislation just a convenient excuse to finally pass these old, frightening provisions -- or were they really included out of a genuine concern for public safety? [that's, hopefully, a rhetorical question] Some (but not all) of the more horrible aspects are due to the PATRIOT act and will sunset after 5 years (supposedly), however, even after they sunset... how will anyone know if the people over at Homeland Security have complied? We won't. In time, this new agenency has the potential to make former USSR's KGB look like Amnesty International. :Oh crap :321GFY |
Us Americans are just pussies now. What ever happened to real American men that believed in freedom at all costs?
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin "Give me liberty, or give me death." - Patrick Henry "I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it. - Thomas Jefferson |
You guys don't know the half of it. The "Homeland Security Act" (what a joke) is just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some more tidbits you might be interested in. I think each and every one f us owes it to ourselves to donate to EPIC if for no other reason than to keep abreast of these goons in Washington.

How many people have disappeared? It's not as if we have tons of people going missing every day (yet?). |
There is and has been for some time a higher proportion of the American population in prison then what their was under Hitler in Germany or Stalin in the USSR.
