encrypt html a smart way to go?

i need to protect my source pretty bad. i have links to my avs and any body that knows how to view source can basically go and have fun in all my galleries. ive seen html encryption programs and they pretty much stop 90% of ppl from going through the pain of decrypting it.

well they use javascript. is it worth using them? how many ppl actuallly dont have javascript?

oh well give me your thoughts

blocking right click foils some surfers

java ecrypt is kind of a bitch and if they really want to crack it they can ... i looked 4 decent progs at one point but most of the stuff out there is kind of crappy. easiest way is 2 go to existing sites who use it and look 4 the 'encrypted by blah' tag and look 4 a website.

:thumbsup

my question: no right click is javascript right?

im just thinking if it will have errors and how many % of internet users enable javascript, cuz basically if they dont have javascript my site doesnt load

Very simple - don't bother. You can't protect your source, so forget the idea.

There isn't one way you can protect your source that a webmaster with half a brain can't trivially get around.

Don't waste your time.

More to the point, why on earth would you want to protect HTML source? Don't want people stealing your 1337 table code?

I can't think of any good reason you'd want to protect HTML code. Hell, I could pretty much rewrite the HTML for a site and have it looking exactly like it.

So uhm, why?

I use a program that does that but only for my members area... + side, I haven't seen my members area ripped off yet, - side: slow loading on 56K, larger page sizes, fucks some search engines up.

Interesting thread.

Perhaps you can have a page full of javascript, and have a page for non javascript people. Can this be done in the same HTML file, sort of like frames and no-frames?

gornyhuy 11-19-2002 12:07 PM

well, you can easily do a redirect or frame page based on whether they have js turned on or not.

Also, there is the "< noscript>" "< / n oscript>" tags for those who have it turned off.

Don't know what advantage you would get by encrypting your html though.

--had to edit the noscript tags so they would show up in the post

There will be NO way of getting your html. (well... it will take some time to crack the security...)

The solution is not to encrypt html, but to design your site better. Why would you have links in your html that you don't want people knowing about?
